Brides & Grooms & Alterations

Hey Ladies - I live in Philly & am planning a wedding in NY, but thankfully through your board found the recommendation of going to Brides & Grooms in DE. :) I'm 90% sure on a dress that I want to buy from there, but I'm not sure if I should go with the alterations there (they guarantee they would be $250 or less) or if I should use a private seamstress. (At this point, I will most likely need the hem shortened, some nips and tucks on the bodice and I want a french bustle added.) Any advice? TIA!

Most of us go to Elaine Morgan in Newark (you can google her for address and phone info under the maps tab). When I went to her she told me I was going to be one of her more expensive brides at $125. She made the sleeves for my dress and did a lot of alterations and I paid $115 (I think). My bridesmaids were all $40-45. Very reasonable. The only thing with Elaine is that she can be a little flighty, so just stay on top of her and her assistant (looking back I would have called the day before to make sure everything was done before I got there), but granted I was amidst prime wedding season AND Prom. Overall though her work is good and there are many here that are very happy with her.

Hi!My sister and best friend both bought their dress from Brides and Grooms and had their alterations done there.  Both had sort of a stick situation with the owner and seamstress there. If you do go there, make sure you bring someone with you when you go to pick up your dress that is very critical and will really analyze every detail.  Without my friend's mom over analyzing everything there would have been a bunch of mess ups on the alterations.  I am sure a lot of places are like that though. Good luck!
