Brides and Grooms

So my wedding is 12/12 and my cousin who is pregnant (due in Jan) ordered her dress along with extra fabric.  Apparently when ordering the dress she specifically asked for it to be a maternity one. Come to find out on Thanksgiving they didn't and the dress obviously doesn't fit!!! Its crazy cause she is carrying sooo well (she looks like she just ate a bagel and is a bit bloated!)

So her seamstress tells her that the alterations would be around $200! So she calls the store to see if there was something they could do since it is their fault and they basically tell her tough luck!!!!!!!

Has anyone had anything like this happen to them?!?!

TIA

Which seamstress are you dealing with?  And what designer for the dresses?

While the service I have experienced at Brides and Grooms has always been wonderful (they are always so helpful, and always make sure to pull out a chair for me so I can sit, and even politely ask others to get out of it if they sit in my chair, so I don't have to stand on my bad leg!), I have heard that the alterations department there lacks something to be desired.

My suggestion would be this, find another seamstress.  At this point in time, I would check with Elaine Morgan- since it isn't homecoming or prom season, she shouldn't be too hassled, and might be able to fix it.  There is also the lady in Independence Mall on 202 (Sophia I believe is her name?) who seems to come highly recommended.  You could also call a couple other bridal shops (like Jennifer's) and find out who they recommend for alterations.

Here is my question about it being "their fault".  Did she try on the maternity dress?  Some designers don't have an actual maternity style dress (for example, I know Alfred Angelo does, but I am pretty sure Jim Hjelm does not).  Do you have the slip of paper with the style number on it?  If the number on the slip matches the number on the dress, there's nothing you can do- they ordered the correct dress.  If the number is different, though, take it in and talk to Marie or Faith.  They should be able to help you.  In terms of it being a maternity gown that needed extra fabric, the maternity gowns I have seen do not need extra fabric ordered with them based on their design.  I would check out the designer website, and make sure it's the maternity one.

If she needs a maternity dress ASAP, check out Bridal and Tuxedo Shoppe- I know Lura had luck finding one for her expecting BM there.  Good luck with it all.

I have another dress for her to wear by luck! My sisters friend wore a dress for a wedding while pregnant that is almost a dead match for my colors!!!

She isn't using them as her seamstress. We are from South Jersey (FI lives in Pike Creek).

I have had nothing but nice things to say about them other than this incident.  Its just real surprising to me and my cousin is not the type to ruffle any feathers. I just feel badly cause they spoke to her so rudely to the point that she has had high blood pressure as a result!!

While she had not tried on the maternity style, she ordered the extra fabric because when ordering the dress she just found out she was pregant and wanted to make sure she would have it in case she didn't fit into the dress.
