My close and very dear friend Heather and I met through an RSD group. She has the same disease I do, only in her right arm and hand. We have become extremely close; she is 23, and understands best what I am going through and dealing with not only when it comes to RSD but also dealing with it as a young adult.
Yesterday afternoon around 3, she called me frantic- her fiance, Greg, who was in town visiting (he owns a large company and is from Norway, so he isn't in town all that much), was supposed to be home two hours before she was. He had gone into town for a meeting, and then was supposed to come straight back to her house. He was not answering his phones for either her or her uncle (whom he is very close with, that's how Heather and Greg met), and she was very, very worried. I tried to calm her down, telling her not to panic just yet, that he was probably out setting up a romantic evening with her or one of his famous surprises he does for her. She calmed down some, and i knew she was okay when she told me he was going to get his a$$ ripped apart for making her worry like this. I asked her to let me know when she heard from him, just to be on the safe side.
By 8:00, I had not heard from her, so I texted her. Her uncle texts me back, saying she is unavailable because she's in Greg's ICU room with him, and phones aren't allowed in the ICU. Apparently, he was in a horrible car wreck, and they didn't find out until about 7pm.
Greg has massive internal damage, 19 broken bones, weak brain activity, and is on a ventilator. He needs surgery to repair the internal damage, but is too weak to handle any type of procedure or surgery. He is still unresponsive. He has a 5% chance of surviving at all, and a 2% chance of making a full recovery. If he is ever able ot walk again, he will need to completely relearn, as well as relearn to eat, drink, and other basic tasks. He has a DNR, so they won't revive him if something happens.
Heather is an absolute wreck. She lives in Atlanta, GA, so I'm not close by and feel so helpless.
Please, any prayers right now would be really wonderful. They need them so much right now. Thank you girls.
