Delaware

I freakin' give up!

So we tried to be nice and involve the mothers in our venue decision.  After a VERY long day, everyone vetoed the idea on having a Philly reception. Ugg!  Wish I would have known this before spending 6 months researching and visiting these places.  WTF I "forgot" that it is "too far" of a drive for everyone but me...whatever.  Now I am back to local places. However, none of them really fit into my vision of an unusual reception venue. Please don't think that I am knocking DE, it simply is that I really like these unusual museums and old houses.  None in DE can hold 200 guests.

To make matters worse-  two of the places that might work for us in DE are now booked for our date!!!!!   I give up!!!  My date is signifigant to us and I really don't want to change it.

Had to vent...Thanks

Sorry your family's getting in the way of you're vision.  Have you looked at the Dupont and Brandywine area locations?

I took a look at all of the DuPont rooms, Bellevue, and will prob see Rockwood soon...alot of these venues cannot hold 200 indoors sadly.

I'm surprised the Gold Ballroom at DuPont couldn't hold 200.

Check out the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts, I think that place is huge:  http://www.thedcca.org/rental.html

I would change my date waaay before I'd change the venue.  No matter what date you pick it will be special because it's your wedding anniversary.

Future-All DuPonts are booked for our date. On a side note- Hotel's rates are up to $170pp. I thought it was closer to $150.  Slightly too high IMO for that room. Nice but that is alot for it.  Most in Philly are less!

MrsJax-I like those places but we really don't want  a tent because we are really concerned with AC and I hate to rent such a beautiful house/building to not really use it.

I am totally frustrated but am leaning towards changing the date to the Saturday during Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for all of the help!!

did you look at winterthur and longwood?  one thing you might think about is renting 2 big buses to take people into philly -- we had a niece to do that and it was a lot of fun.

What about Harry's Savoy Ballroom? I think it can fit up to 250.

    Hey,
Where have you looked? We also wanted an unusual venue and fell in love with the Rockwood Carriage House. It holds up to 225 and its really unique, but beautiful at the same time. Let me know...Its frustrating, but you'll get it worked out! Chin up...:)

If you like water or boats, have you thought about the Chesapeake Inn in Chesapeake City, Md? It's no more than 10mins from Middletown De.
