Center pieces

I have no idea what to do for my center pieces :( My wedding is in June and our colors are yellow and green. I'm having daisies, tulips, forsythia, and lillies (as far as I know). First off, should I go with silk flowers or real flowers?? I want real flowers for the bouquet. Also, what should I do for the center pieces that will be simple, yet elegant?? I have absolutely no ideas so any suggestions would be appreciated!

You have time.  Don't stress about that just yet!

My suggestion would be to check out both the photo galleries here and the ones on Project Wedding (love their pic galleries!).  They will have lots of suggestions.

In terms of silk vs real, I would do real for the centerpeices (assuming you even use flowers!).  Leave silk to the bouquets (page Mrs.Lura for more info; she had a silk florist do her bouquets, and they were gorgeous).  You can do fun, simple, inexpensive centerpieces that incorporate what you want to portray.  Remember, you can utilize other things- like candles (esp floating ones), water, mirrors, fruit (slices of limes and lemons are really popular right now), branches, etc- to help make it more affordable.

For simple yet elegant, I am a fan of low, simple flowers arrangements in a vase (square ones are always fun yet sophisticated), set on a mirror with a few (4) tealights scattered around.  I am HUGE fan of low centerpieces anyway, because I feel that high centerpieces make guests do the head bob trying to see and talk around the obstruction it creates; low ones enable everyone to see everyone and everything.

There are several florists that can help you as well; Belak's is popular on here, Ron Eastburns, Ramones, Elana's Broad Street (in Middletown, she is actually doing my centerpieces), etc.  The nice thing about a florist is they have visions and know what can be done with certain flowers; they help your vision come to life in ways you may not have thought of at all.  Plus, they take the stress of doig them yourselves off your shoulders the days before.

We will find you something!  Head over to the photos, see what you can find, and go from there.

Try either of these two blogs, the first is a DIY site, the second is tons of photos of great flowers.  Hope they help you out! You could also check etsy's wedding link, it's posted on one of the blogs, lots of artisans there do great flowers!  I was surpised at all the options for flowers. http://diyweddingplanning.blogspot.com/ or http://heartsandflowersaweddingblog.blogspot.com/

I would nix silk.  Real has such a nice touch.  You can also use seasonal flowers and greens too.  I am alternating high and low since there are 19 tables.  If you are inviting alot of guests, it looks nice to have several different centerpieces

My venue had silk centerpieces already so I just used them and picked the fall theme ones.  I wasn't too picky about the centerpieces as it's just something else to lug home after the wedding (though I did get to take home the centerpiece from Donnalynn's wedding last July).  I did go with silk flowers for my bouquet, 3 BP bouquets, 7 bouts, and 2 corsages, and one throw away bouquet .  The reason I went with silk is because I don't get spending thousands of dollars on flowers that wil last one week, if that.  My silk flowers (all of them) cost $350 tops.  My DH bought me a beautiful crystal vase after we got back from our HM to put my bouquet in and it sits on top of my entertainment center.  Also, I was able to design the bouquets to how I wanted them to look, and got to pick them up a week before the wedding and bring them to the rehearsal so they were ready the next day for the wedding.

My friend recently used green hydrangeas in a tall white vase. Her colors were bright pink and lime green. She did have bright pink table cloths though so didn't need a lot of floral color to add pop to the room. The nice thing with hydrangeas is that they have a big bloom and you only need one stem for a centerpiece really. Just add some candles to the tables!

My tables are long and rectangular so I am going with a single gerber daisy along with some sort of mum (pom pom mum maybe it is?) in a bud vase. We are going to have about four of them lined down the table. Gerber daises come in all colors. My bouquet doesn't match my table flowers; it is hydrangeas and roses. I am using Elana's in Middletown. Great pricing I think. We went in and looked at her books (without an appointment one day) to get some ideas then made an appointment to go back and meet with them. THey were very helpful!
