DJ!?

I am looking to book my DJ as soon as I can, by the end of next wk at the latest hopefully.

I met with Pam from Moore Music (Downingtown, PA) but I dont think she is quite our style and we also want lighting involved.

I am going to talk with Synergetic Sounds and already have their pricing and know what they will offer, but im wondering who else is out there before I book because they are expensive.  They will prob be almost $2000 if I book them.  But if I do go with them, what 2 dudes are the best DJs?

So im just wondering who do you know from personal experience that is a really good DJ and/or lighting company?

Our style of music is going to be up-beat, recent songs, and we want a DJ who can MIX the songs as if we are in a club, not just fade one song into the next.

If there is a great DJ who doesnt do lighting, do you know of any lighting companies?

I would love all your recommendations! <3

PS: I tried to search for "DJ" on this board and phily board but the search took me to other boards, which obviously wasnt any help so that is why im posting this question, sorry if its annoying or asked a lot. =/

    Hey there!

IMO, $2K for a DJ is a bit much.  I am getting mine for around $750 for 5 hours, and I haven't heard a bad thing about him yet.  IF they are doing lighting, I might go for it, but they better be the best DJs I have ever seen.

I know several names that are thrown around that seem to come highly recommended are Steve Croce (Sarah used him, as did a friend) and Don from D&J (Donnalynn used him, as did my cousin).  A few more are Tom Barrett (who I just booked today), Schaffer Sound, and DJ's available- all are affordable, and come recommended from both here and the Philly board.

Have you thought about going with a band?  If you are willing to spend that much money, for a little more, you could get a decent band.

B&B, Synergetic, Best of Both Worlds, DJ's Available, EBE Talent, Silver Sound- all do lighting in addition to the music.  I got all these names from the Philly Blog (http://phillyblog.yolasite.com/knottie-vendor-list.php), and just typed their names into Google, and checked their webpages to see if they did lighting as well.  If you want more names, including bands, check out the link above.

Finally, also post this request on the South Jersey board as well as the Philly Board.  The search option on this new format isn't working well just yet, so your best bet is to just post and ask.  The boards shouldn't mind.  I say both because the vendors that service both those areas will also come down here (you may pay a small travel fee, but not a huge one if any at all).

    Hope that helps!

Don from D&J was the BEST!!! Seriously, he may have been my favorite vendor of all, and I had a lot of great ones.  He was a huge reason why my wedding was as much fun as it was.  He's fun, he's personable, and he's extremely knowledgeable.  If you meet with him, he will go through a very thorough consultation with you and play some music and show you what he does.  I'm pretty sure he also does lighting.  I know for me, there was some basic lighting that he threw in, but I'm pretty sure he does some more involved things if that's what you're looking for.  I would definitely give him a call!  The website is www.yourcustomdj.com. Good luck!!!

Thank you!  I will check all those you recommended out.  According to the Vendor page, Tom Barrett lives in my town! Meeting with him would be easy, but I dont want to waste his time. Would you mind telling me some things about him / his company?
I guess if I can find a good DJ I can hire another company for lighting.  Thanks for your help!

I'm not getting married until August, so I haven't seen them in action, but I booked with DJ's available.  My first choice, Harold Peacock, wasnt available but I am very happy with our DJ, Joe Moser (DJPer4m).  They both mix.

I'm paying just over $1k for 5hr DJ and uplighting.
