toasts

This probably will seem like a dumb question, but are you supposed to ask people to give toasts, or should I wait for volunteers?  I've never been sure how that's supposed to work.

In the weddings I've been involved in, the couples have asked whether people would like to give toasts, usually making sure to give them the option to not give one if they don't want to.

From what I know and I am not an expert, the best man and maid of honor give a toast. Also the groom gives a toast on behalf of the bride and him to thank everyone. Then if anyone else in the wedding party would like to give a speech they may. Some people do not like to give speeches/toast so you can open communicate with the wedding party to see if they want to give a toast or not. This is what we are doing for ours.

Perhaps it varies with your group of friends/family but it's standard for the Best Man and Maid Of Honor to give toasts.  There is usually someone from the family who toasts too. Our BM and MOH gave toasts along with my father (give the mic to the person throwing the party, they should welcome/thank/toast everyone).Beyond that?  I wouldn't do it.  Extra GM or GM speeches are long and painful for everyone.  In fact, most guests would say the BM and MOH speeches are painful but hey, it's our wedding so screw 'em ;)
