Reception Site Frustration...

So we finally decide on a reception venue, and I'm all excited because just walking up to the place makes me feel all giddy and "bridal" inside.  So pretty!I contact the events manager to find out about signing a contract and forking over a large, non-refundable deposit, and things get shady.  He says he'll send a contract after I send him a check.  I say no, I'd like the contract first.  So he emails me a LETTER that basically says congrats, here's your date.  No mention of what charges exist, no guarantee that my deposit goes toward the final bill, cancellation policy, any of the things we talked about.  I told him I needed those things in writing in the form of a contract...four days ago...and I still have nothing.Looks like we may be looking again........

From experience...RUN!  We paid a deposit and come to find out the venue went out of business, took our money and never contacted us again.  We were left to find an entire new venue and caterer 5 months after we booked them.  (Needless to say I contacted Channel 8 News and showed up at the owners house with them....but that is a different story, and we even had a signed contract and receipt proving that we paid).  You don't want to be worried about things not working out and if you can find somewhere else, I would recommend it. Good Luck!!  :)

That doesn't give me a good feeling. Not to be a bummer, but I would look. Even if he gets you the appropriate contract at this point, then who is to say he won't be flaky later in the process when you get down to the final stuff. I would keep looking!

I agree, that seems sketchy like they are trying to hide something.  You will get that feeling again at another site, don't loose hope but I think if you stick with these folks, you will just have some potential headaches down the road.

Yes, when I pushed for a contract, I finally got some things in writing that were going to end up being much more expensive than what we discussed.  Also...we started to feel like if he was this hard to work with when he was still trying to EARN our business, what would it be like once he had our non-refundable deposit.  I'm a little sad, because it is a very pretty location, but simply not worth the hassle. We have moved on already.  Sadly, our second choice is already booked, but I'm sure we'll find something......Thanks!

It all happens for a reason, so just know that whatever you find and wherever it is, it will be PERFECT for your day!
