Cake prices

Hi ladies,

I got married in April, but am now helping a friend plan for next June.  I did a dessert buffet at my wedding rather than cake, so I know nothing about cake prices.  What is an average price per slice for wedding cake in this area?  And any suggestions for great cake?

    The East Ames Hyvee charges approx. $2.75 per slice.  Many cake professionals charge between $3-4 per slice. There are a few local cake people that charge less than that. Another money-saving option is to get a smaller or fake tiered cake and then do sheet cakes to serve, which are less expensive. Check out this thread for some ideas:

    We liked the cake (beautiful & tasty) from Cake Me I'm Yours and Heather was very nice, but it was out of our budget.

    We are hoping to have Amy Hansen from Goodies Made With Love do ours - her number is 991-5133. Her prices are comparable to HyVee's and I've heard good things.

    I also contacted Rachel Urban from Urban Creations and she was really nice but not available on our date.

    about 2.25 per serving i am using enchanted sweets. Becky does a great job and she is on facebook if you add her to your friends you get 10 percent off. so i am spending about 175 on my cake cuz of that

    We are using Carefree Patisserie in Valley Junction.  The cake is fantastic and the two women that run it are wonderful and very creative.  They have a Facebook page with a ton of photographs.

     I am using a lady here in Cedar Rapids. Classic Cakes by Design, her name is Anne Mason. She will make whatever you want, about $1.80 per slice. No extra charge for fillings or flavors either. Got a great deal of about $200 for my cake. I can get her info together if you like. good luck and congrats

    I'm doing a more non traditional wedding cake with www.IowaRentACake.com
    It's a fake tiered cake with sheet cakes. I love the idea!!!
