Fish Centerpieces?

We are wanting to do goldfish or betta fish in our centerpieces.  We found drops to put in the water so the fish don't get stressed out.  We thought we could give them to kids afterwards or just take them home for ourselves.  I have read that sometimes people think this is rude because they feel "obligated" to let their kids take one.

Opinions?

Well, If you like the fish idea than go for it. I've never been a fan of pet fish and I wouldn't take one home. What would you do with the left over fish?

We would put them in a tank.  That's why we thought goldfish would be better because they can all be together ...

I think it is fine. If you want to use fish go for it. I like the goldfish better

I think it's a cute idea and would look cool.  My only thought is, what if they die pre- or mid-reception?  Would you have someone going around with a little fish net to scoop up potential floating fish?  Just something to consider.

i was at a wedding that had this and a lot of the fish died before or during. It was kind of yucky - i would not suggest doing this.

I know it's not fish but, you can use a fish bowl and have some fall wedding colors.

I was also at a wedding where they did this in all of their centerpieces, and the fish were dead when we got there.  I have to tell you it isn't very appetizing to look at a dead fish all night... just saying.  It is a cute idea, but you dont want your guests remembering your wedding as the one with the dead fish at the reception.

LOL! Ok it's not funny but ewww!  Good point!!!  I do not want any dead fishies!!!

Yeah, I just felt bad for the fish at that point really.  We had to put all our cups and stuff in front of the vase they were in so we didn't have to look at them all night.

I agree   We wanted to make it healthy for them, which is why we thought about getting the drops.  However, I don't think it's worth the risk at all!

I also attended a wedding where they did this and a lot of them died.  One of the groomsmen also ate one of the living ones (not cool).

Is there a way to "test" the drops ahead of time.  Maybe buy five goldfish and test it out.
