After my aunts threw me a shower a few weeks ago, my FMIL decided she was going to throw me one. Kay, fine, whatever. She invited all of her friends, including people I'm not overly fond of or close to. again, kay, fine, whatever.
Overall it actually wasn't too bad. It was nice to see some people I hadn't seen in a long time. And the other 3/5 of my bridesmaids were able to make it to this shower. So that was nice I guess.
Aside from the fact that the younger of my two FSILs and youngest BM is kind of an AW and spent the entire evening making sure she had everyone's attention before making whore jokes at my expense. She's done this since FI and I started dating so it's not abnormal, just not really appropriate for a bridal shower in which the vast majority of people there are much older and DO NOT understand that that is the way she "jokes". Honestly, I found it a little hurtful, but FMIL said absolutely nothing about it to her all night. Awesome.
And another tiny rant, along the lines of "FMIL threw this party for her, not for me." FMIL made carrot cake to serve... I hate carrot cake.
But anyway. It was nice-ish. And once again, my mother made the biggest impact on me with the smallest, most thoughtful gift.
I'm actually just kinda glad the whole bridal shower part of things is over.
