January 2013 Weddings

cant decide

OK, so me and my fiance cant decide if we should have it in Jan '13 or june '13, i live in a cold snowy state so im not sure how a winter wedding would work...any advise?

Re: cant decide

  • We also live in a cold snowy state, Michigan, and the idea of a beautifully snow covered ground for our Winter Wedding is perfect. It all depends on what you dream of? I'd rather deal with freezing temps and ice, then hot sticky weather in the summer.
  • Makes me nervous too! I live in Michigan and we just decided to have a January 13' weding from May 13' cuz we didnt want to wait. So I understand your concern but a winter wedding can be very beautiful. Im still new at the whole Winter wedding so no ideas but I will keep you posted once I figure it out! Good luck!
  • I don't live in a very wintery state, but I am also worried about snow on the big day. I hate summer, so I'd have the wedding in winter or fall regardless, but that's just me. But I definitely will be considering wedding insurance and I will do my best to have a back-up plan should snow fall. I imagine though that unless it snows day of the wedding, Wisconsin may be a bit more prepared and will probably have a better handle on dealing with the snow than where I live in Oklahoma.

But, it could be 70 degrees and Sunny on the day of our wedding in January like it was for my folks January 5th wedding in '84.
  • I also live in Michigan and am getting married in January 2013.  I actually wanted a winter wedding, but what solidified my decision was that it will be SOOOO much cheaper to get married in January as compared to your idea of getting married in July.  Not to mention it's sooner :D

My venue only charged me a $200 room rental fee and lots of other vendors will be more flexible with you and your'e more likely to get the person you want because there's less business during the "off-season" months.

Everything is cheaper in January! Most places offer big discounts in winter months!

Plus, I would much rather be chilly in my wedding dress then sweaty hot. I feel like my hair and make-up is ruined within 20 minutes of an outdoor summer wedding!

I wasn't sure how I felt about winter at first, but the more I plan, the better I like it!

    Good luck :)
  • I also hate summer. Who wants to be all sweaty in their pictures? I hope it snows on my wedding day (maybe not blizzard snow....) But I think a sparkly winter wedding will be the prettiest thing!

<div>I agree completely! I'm also doing a winter 2013 wedding in Mpls because I'd much rather get a super cute cardigan instead  of get sweat stains and runny foundation on my dress. Plus if you plan an indoors winter wedding you don't have to worry too much about the weather, where as if you plan a summer wedding you are probably planning outside and will need a backup plan. </div>
