opinions on the Ohio Statehouse and Loft at Dock 580

Hi guys,

I just started planning and am researching venues. I am not local so only have websites to rely on for now.  Any opinions on the Ohio Statehouse?  Can't tell if it's too stark/impersonal.

Also, any thoughts on Loft 580?  It seems really pricey for what it is...!

Most of my guests have never been to Ohio and I want to show them Columbus is a great city!

Thanks!

  • In my opinion, I would prefer the Statehouse over the Loft at Dock 580. I have heard that the inside of Dock 580 is nice, but once you step outside all you can see is ugly buildings and I-670. I personally would not enjoy a view of the freeway. With the Statehouse you can show them some of the history of Columbus.
  • I love the statehouse! It's gorgeous, and the history behind it is really neat!
  • I'm getting married in 60 days at The Loft!!! I absolutely love the space...it's "urban chic" just like the website says. We were impressed with the food after our tasting and Molly, the event coordinator is really great to work with.
  • I am having my reception at The Loft and LOVE it, the two levels make it function perfectly for us, it has plenty of room, they are flexible when working with you, and it is beautiful. I think you want to consider the feel you want. Those two places are quite different in feeling. Good luck!
  • I'm having my wedding and ceremony at the Loft.  I have had nothing but GREAT encounters with the people there and they have made everything so easy to plan and have made me feel so at ease! Absolutely love the beautiful view of the skyline of Columbus from it.
  • Why did you guys choose the Loft vs. the Venue?  Apparently the Venue is booked through October 2013...insane!
  • I liked the multi level idea with the loft since we're having both the ceremony and reception there. It gives the guests a chance to "move" around a little w/o actually having to go anywhere. Also, for the older guests, if they don't want to be downstairs with loud music during the dancing portion they can stay upstairs and view the dancing through the cutout, and still feel like they are a part of the party.
  • I REALLY thought we were going to book the Loft before we went there.  But then we had problems scheduling a tour and the date we wanted got booked while we were waiting to get a response.  It turned out it didn't really matter because once we toured it, it just didn't feel right.  Plus it was on the top end of our budget.

  • I thought about the Dock 580 but moved away from it because we want to have a wedding on Sunday Night and they don't do Sundays.

I am having my reception at the Ohio Statehouse. We are having our cocktaill hour in the rotunda and dinner in the atrium so we can take advantage of both spaces.  They also have free parking and guided tours of the Statehouse for your guests which we liked. We also loved the proximity to hotels (the Sheraton is accross the street) so our guests didn't have to deal with shuttles at the end of the night.
  • I am getting married in the venue at dock580 in October. I love the urban chic vibe and the staff have been amazing! Molly is extremely organized and it has been nothing but a pleasure to work with dock580 thus far! Also, if you or your future hubby is in the military they do offer a fairly generous discount of $5 a person.
