Centerpieces

I have decided to make/buy my own centerpieces. I want something simple and elegant that I can possibly send home with people after the reception. Anyone have any good ideas or photos they can post?

We used glass cake stands with votive candles for center pieces. We had mini tarts set out on each table for dessert- people loved the idea!! Each cake stand had a cover and we set them on colored card stock- PIB. Our cake stands double as punch bowls- so something like that idea people could for sure keep them afterwards and use them again and think of you guys and your wedding!

I'm not sure if this fits the elegant part. But you can always go to a flea market buy tons of cheap vases in different sizes/styles and then for the wedding go to a farmer's market and purchase flowers. That's what we did at my wedding and we got lots of compliments, plus its really cheap.

I think vases with sunken flowers look really elegant but can be affordable because you don't have to put a lot of flowers in each vase in order to make a big impression. You could also use a variety of vase shapes and sizes and different flowers to add interest.

I think my colors are going to be eggplant with different shades of green. I love green flowers!

You could do carnation spheres! My florist is making some with light green carnations though you could use silk ones from Michaels. (maybe a mixture of purple and green...)You can google directions on how to make them. Super easy!

very cool Ms. Ricka- I love the carnations spheres!! I also like the idea of different vases. My college roommate did different lanterns on each table- we found them at TJMaxx/Marshall stores.

I got my short dome vases from Craigslist, and a great idea from the previous owner. Fish! We'll be putting small fish in the bowl, and since it has a dome underneath, the flowers (one or two silk tops) will go there with an LED candle.

Just a note on the fish idea... What do you plan on doing with the fish after the wedding? This was pretty popular in the 90s, when they'd but little beta fish under some kind of plant or floating candle. But a lot of fish ended up dying because the wax would drip on them or they'd just get left behind. It can be considered a little cruel to use them as your decorations, unless you have a good plan on how to care for them during and after the reception.
