My name's a-changin'!!

Just had to share some excitement :) I decided to take my husband's last name, but it hasn't felt REAL until today.  I changed my DL on 7/9, Soc Sec on 7/10, then at work just last week, and currently working on credit cards, bank, etc.  I just got my email address at work updated - and it feels real to see my new name everywhere!  Definitely a post-wedding excitement moment :)How has name changing gone for anyone else who's just gotten married and is changing their name?

It's definitely a crazy process!  So far I have my DL and credit/debit cards done.  Have to get on the SS card and passport!I agree with you though LS, once I change my work email address it will feel real :)  I keep getting confused when I sign my name! :)

I haven't officially gotten married yet, (this weekend) but we are applying for new credit cards at work, and so I had to fill everything out in my new last name. When I signed it felt totally weird and it was really messy since I wasn't used to it. FI said someone called last night for MR. R, which is my last name, and he told them they had the wrong number. :)

I've been wondering about Social Security cards.  Do they actually print a new card with the new name on it and send it to you?  Or are you just notifying them of the update?  Sorry if this has been answered before, but it's been bugging me for a while.  Thanks!

Not a bad question at all - ask away! They sent me a new card that has my new name on it.  They also updated my address (the last one on file was where my parents lived when I was born, I think!).  It's amazing how our government offices don't talk to each other!  Who in the world updates the social security office of their address change?!  They should get that info from the DMV :)

I thought that's what they would do.  I'm sure they don't have my new address either.  I never would have thought of notifying them of my upcoming name change if I hadn't seen it here.  I'm sure that there's just too many gov't agencies for them all to be exchanging info, so instead they leave it up to us to do.  Thanks for the info!

It's been a year now and I'm finally doing the last one ---- my passport, so we can finally go on a honeymoon on October!

I felt the same way. It didn't really feel like I was married until I started getting things back with my new last name. It's weird and makes me feel old when they say Mrs.
