Escort Cards?

What are escort cards? Do you have to have them? Where do they go? Lol. I am sooo clueless with all this wedding business!!

They are cards with your guests names on them and the table you are placing them at. You don't need them if you are having a buffet or only 1 meal option and don't care where the guests sit. We will be having them since we are having two meal options and would like the guests to sit at certain tables. We are having them on a table as the guests first walk in.

They're commonly known as place cards, but place cards are already at the tables, whereas escort cards help the guest find their seats.  HTH

I did actually use them even though we had a buffet - it's a good idea so guests can either reserve their seat (no table assignments) or know which table they should sit at if they are assigned a table.

I'm also using them to let guests reserve their seat, but I'm not doing assigned seating.  They'll just be up at a table and guests can take them if they want them.  Here's a pic if you're still unsure:

We assigned tables so that family/friends would be able to sit with people they know.  The guests could sit wherever they wanted to at that table.
