Styrofoam cake layers

Ok so our guest count is probably going to be at around 75 at the most however I want a nice tall wedding cake. I know that 75 pieces of cake won't give me a 4 tier cake. My question is do you think that we can have 2 layers real and then then the other 2 layers on top be fake? Or is that just not possible mixing food and styro foam?

I think you can mix food and styro foam, not possitive though.  You can always make your top layer be for anniversary (you freeze it and eat it on your 1 year).  That would get you one more layer.

Yep. You can do Styrofoam layers. You will probably have to use fondant cake (said the man at Buttercream) because the fake cakes are made out of fondant and unless you use it on the whole cake it will look funny. You will have to search around. So far Buttercream and Jessica Cakes will not work with fake cakes.

You absolutely can mix food and styrofoam layers.  Check out Melissa at www.strawberryhillconfections.comShe will do fake cakes and she does beautiful work and her cakes are ALWAYS delicious!  Also, you don't have to save your top tier when you go with her...she re-makes the top tier for you on your first anniversary.  She doesn't believe in making her customers eat year old thawed cake!Check her out!

Yes, you can have a 4-tier cake to serve 75...  It's all dependent upon using smaller tiers...  Have the cake done in a 10", 8", 6", 4" and you'll be good...  Or, you could go for a larger portion of cake for each guest (who doesn't like a larger slice of cake at weddings than what they normally give you??? - unless the cake is cr*p, in which case you wouldn't eat it anyways)...   The reason I'm pointing this out is because you're going to end up spending just as much on having a tier done in foam as you would to have it done in real cake.  For the money you're likely to spend, you can ask your caterer to not serve the smaller top 2 tiers of a 12, 10, 8, 6 because "you're planning to have it the next day for brunch" or something like that or freeze it and have it when you get back from your honeymoon because it's easier to handle the smaller tiers.  Also, if you do end up having foam on any tiers, have them be the smaller ones.
