Passport Name Change?

Has anyone on here changed their name on their passport? Do you need to mail your original copy of your marriage certificate in, or will a photo copy suffice?

    Yeah, I read that as being the 'original' copy, but I guess it just surprises me since they'd have our original doc for ~6 weeks. Oh well.

    You can buy a certified copy from the county for sending away for things like this. I plan on going to the Government Center with it in hand so I don't have to send it away (or if they take it, at least I don't have to pay for postage!). I've changed my DL, Soc Security card, and bank stuff, and I haven't needed my certificate for credit cards or anything since doing that. So as long as you get the big ones out of the way, it'd probably be ok to send it off for a few weeks.

    Yes, I changed my name on my passport a few months ago. You do have to send a certified copy of your marriage certificate, copies are not acceptable. You can either send the original, or as LittleSweetie said, get a certified copy.I sent my original and it took about 3-4 weeks to get it back. I enclosed a note asking them to send it back, as a safeguard.Something that's good to know....your marriage certificate is not returned with your new passport, it comes separately. I got my passport in the mail and was dismayed that the marriage certificate wasn't with it...but the marriage cert was returned a few days later, separately, and that is the normal procedure.
