How cold is too cold?

So, I am more of a lurker and hardley ever post, but I have a question and need your ladies help.I am planning on having a short outdoor ceremony in on Oct. 11. With the weather getting chillier I am wondering what do you think the temp should be above to expect people to sit outside?  Thanks for your help!

Today is cold out.  I think it's about 57 out right now and I couldn't wait to get inside so I would think its too cold to be outisde for a ceremony.

I think it depends on how long short is to you - and whether your guests know the ceremony is outside so that they can dress appropriately.

I guess if you really want it outside you should do that no matter the temp. My FSIL got married outside in Feb - yea Feb - but the ceremony was really short (like 10 min) and she obviously didn't care that people had their big winter jackets on. So if you keep it shorter, you should be good. I would go with what you really want and what fits the two of you as a couple. If you are concerned, you could even put something in the invite like "dress to say warm" so the guests are prepared.

Thanks for the help ladies. It so hard this time of the year becuase it can be 75 or 40. I am just going to keep stalking the forecast and see how things go. I am thinking that if it is above 60ish and not super windy or anything, we will be outside. I do have a back up plan so it's not that big of a deal to move inside.  I am just going to keep my finger crossed for a a little warmer temps :)

I'm not sure if this would be in your budget, but I went to a tented wedding in Colorado in March (!!!) and it was comfortable because they had heat lamps that they provided. If your heart is set on having your ceremony outdoors, it might be good to look into these just in case!

Hey date twin! My FI and I are getting married outside on OCt. 11th too! We are planning a short ceremony so as long as it isn't too cold or wet we're going to have it outside, but it won't be hard to move it inside too. Good luck with your planning, only 12 days left!

I think the big question is this...do your guests know the ceremony will be outside? If so, I'd say you'd be okay down to 60 degrees, as long as it's not rainy, windy, your ceremony is 30 minutes or less, and your guests absolutely know it's an outdoor ceremony. Is there a place for people to be indoors nearby right before/after the ceremony? Keep in mind that some people will arrive as early as 30 minutes or so before the ceremony, so if there's nothing indoors nearby, they'll be outside all of that time, plus during the ceremony. My brother had his wedding on 9/14 several years ago and it was only about 65 degrees during the ceremony. It was at the Lyndale Rose Garden and I believe all of the guests knew it would be cold outside, and I believe they brought jackets, etc., so that they wouldn't be cold. I did feel sorry for the wedding party, though, as the women had sleeveless dresses and obviously couldn't wear jackets or anything during the ceremony, and also had to be outdoors for a long time during photos. However, other than it being cold it was a beautiful day and their pictures turned out wonderfully. I don't know of anybody who minded being outside because they enjoyed the setting and were willing to brave the weather since weddings are a special occasion. GL!
