Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Photog Recommendation?

Hi ladies.  I'm looking for a photog in the Rochester or SE MN area. We would be willing to pay a little for travel from somewhere around there if the price was right and the photog was awesome. We don't want to spend any more than $1500.  We like the photo-journalistic style more than posed shots. We'd love someone that could get a ton of really great candids, and some really creative detail pictures.(Also, I realize there is a SEMN board, but it's exceedingly slow, so I thought someone here might be able to help!) Thanks!

Check out Ben Berndt Photography and Dana Schoppe. They both have a photojournalistic style. I know Ben travels fairly far, and I think Dana does, too. They should both be around your price range, and I have reviews for both in my bio. benberndtphotography.com dschoppe.smugmug.com

Its going to be out of your price range but I do want to suggest Olive Juice Studios - they are amazing and located in Rochester. I personally have not worked with them but have seen their pictures everywhere and they are AMAZING!

I've got a couple recs for you.  First, checkout Bryan Newfield with Studio Blue (http://www.studiobluemn.blogspot.com).  He was amazing to work with and we got a great deal through him,  though his prices just went up so he might be out of your budget.Second rec: Render Photography.  She's just recently started her own photog business, but she used to shoot with La Vie Photography.  Her prices and photos are really great! I just got married yesterday and would recommend my photographer a million times over. He kept everything running smoothly, kept me calm about the time schedule, was open to my suggestions as well as giving me his professional take on how to make it work better! He was hilarious and we all really enjoyed having him around. He worked his magic without being in the way. He traveled to my location in southcentral MN from Hastings, for a small fee. He is above what you would like to spend, but he was worth every single penny!!

I don't know how many hours you're looking for, so she might be out of your price range but I thought I'd throw the option out there. I used JM Photography for our wedding and I was so impressed with her. She was very organized and was great at communication leading up to and coming out of the wedding. She was so friendly and great to work with-on the wedding day it felt like there was a friend with us...who just happened to be an amazing photographer. Talent-wise, she has such a breathtaking style. She gives a great mixture of posed pictures, detail shots, and candids and they're all equally wonderful. I had a number of "must takes" and she was more than willing to accommodate that while still offering her own. Detail shots were important to me and she got so many. She caught so many moments that I never even noticed her nearby when they were happening. Basically, I was thrilled with her and so happy we booked her. I still fawn over my photos 9 months later. Our second shooter was John Sharpe. He's newer and his prices are lower if cost is really going to be an issue for you. He stepped in and took the reins when Jessica needed to change her card or whatever-he had some great ideas. He even went as far as laying down in the snow to get a better/different angle a few times. He was very fun to work with and the guys all loved him(he took their getting ready shots). I feel like if the men enjoyed having him around that's a good sign because a lot of them don't really enjoy photos. Both great options. And most metro photogs are willing to travel. Good luck!

I remembered this after I posted. If you do decide to check into JM Photography-don't be surprised if she doesn't answer right away. She's having a baby tomorrow and may not be around the computer a lot in the next few weeks.

Hey there! I replied to your thread on the SMN board, but thought I'd reply here as well.... Here's a photog that I think you may be interested in!! She's great! She's based out of San Diego, CA, and Minnesota..... Right now she's offering a special to all brides that book in 2009. She's charging just travel and accomodations and in return you'll get the entire wedding coverage, including any pre-parties, day of, getting ready, entire reception, etc. She also threw in our E-pic session for free as a "get to know you" session. You'll also get copy rights to all photos and a disc with all edited photos for you to print as you like. You may want to give her a call and see what she can do for you. She's has a photojournalistic style which I love because she captures some awesome shots that way! Here's her link: http://www.jayereillyphotography.com Hope this helps!!!
