Alterations: The Wedding Shoppe or The Dressmaker?

Afternoon ladies!So my dress is in! I went for my first "try on" at the Wedding Shoppe, and they do need to take it in a little on top and add a bustle. As of right now, there is no need for a hem.I was quoted $300 for alterations with pressing. I also called The Dressmaker in Edina (which I was recommended to by my sister-in-law), and her prices seemed a little more affordable (plus I have a 10% off coupon), but there didn't seem to be a huge difference in price.Has anyone had good/bad experiences with either? The woman who helped me at the Wedding Shoppe was very helpful, but the Dressmaker said she is the only one to alter the dress so you know who you are dealing with.Any advice, or even examples of what you are paying/have paid at your locations would help. My sister used the Wedding Shoppe and was very pleased with her experience. However I know others have said the prices were a bit high.

I was told at TWS that alterations would start at $250.  I went to Louise Kegley and they ended up totalling $110 (cups, hem, bustle, and steaming).  I would look around.  You can certainly find better prices.

I had my alterations done at the wedding shoppe and will NEVER have anything done there again. (loved my shopping experiences for bridesmaid dresses for my sister's wedding and for my own bridesmaids and gown though) My alterations were nearly 500 dollars when all was done - nothing was done the first time I asked it to be done save for hemming it and when I went to get my dress the final time, they hadn't finished it. Had I not asked to try it on, wouldn't have known until I got it home that they hadn't touched it since the last time I was there. Even when they did finish it, I looked it over and had to tell them to clip a few threads and press something down that they had obviously overlooked. I was really really disappointed with my service there.

Most of the ladies here will recommend Louise Kegley. I haven't used her (I haven't done alteration yet), but I know that the vast majority of the ladies here have or are using her.

There have been some major complaints on here about alterations at the Wedding Shoppe. Like many others, I used Louise Kegley. She wasn't perfect, but her prices were very reasonable and she was very friendly. I would recommend her, many, many brides have used her from The Knot and have had nothing but raves.I went to the Dressmaker for an estimate on alterations, and she had a really dry personality and seemed a little arrogant so I didn't  use her.

Question on alterations: If you go to someone like Louise Kegley, will she keep the dress for you until right before the wedding? I worry about having animals around etc. so don't want to keep it at my or my parents. Also, I'm assuming she'll press it right before the wedding?

I picked mine up the day before my wedding. It was pressed and ready to go.
