Ring insurance?

Just out of curiosity, how many of you ladies have your e-ring insured?  Some people say it's necessary and others say it's not.  Thanks :)

Re: Ring insurance?

  • Mine is insured through FI's home insurance policy. He had it appraised and added it to his insurance right after it was purchased.

I don't know how much the insurance costs, but honestly, the peace of mind is worth it. I would feel horrible if something happened to it and it wasn't insured.

  • I didn't know that it's possible for it to be insured with regular insurance (i.e home insurance).  I've always thought that it had to be a separate insurance thing.  Good to know.
  • I use Jewelers Mutual.  It covers theft, loss, "going missing", etc.  And it's not very expensive.
    BFP #3 July 2012 = EDD 4/1/2013
    BFP #2 May 2012 = loss at 4w3d
    BFP #1 January 2003 = 9 year old son

  • I added my insurance to my homeowner's insurance, but there is a seperate rider (or something?) for it as it's covered outside of the home as well.  It's less than $150 a year and so worth the peace of mind!
  • GET IT!

It costs so little, to replace such an expensive and meaningful belonging.  We pay just $4/month on a rider to our renters insurance and it covers the full value of my rings if they are stolen OR lost (accidental misplacement).  Be careful when establishing your policy, because some only cover theft, but not loss.

I actually know a woman that this happened to-she lost both her e-ring and wedding band and they did NOT have it covered for loss-only theft.  I was devastated for them.

  • It was definitely worth it for me too. I can't remember exactly how much it costs, but I am the murphy who would lose it if it wasn't insured.
  • I also use Jewelers Mutual and it costs me about $3/month. Totally worth it!

  • Get it!!! I have it as a seperate policy through USAA and it's about $4 a month.

My dad's girlfriend had her purse stolen out of her car a few months ago and she happened to be carrying around some old jewelry that she was trying to get appraised and re-set. She didn't have insurance on the pieces and lost about $24,000.

  • I used to work in insurance, and I saw quite a few people who were so pissed off at themselves when something happened, and they didn't have coverage. ABSOLUTELY get it and make sure you get a good endorsement (when you add it to a renter's or homeowner's policy.)

A lot of things can happen to it....theft, going down the drain, falling off in a lake or public pool, dog eating it, losing it, etc.  It seems to happen so much more than you would ever realize, and it's always better safe than sorry.
  • Get it!  I added it as a rider to my homeowner's policy and it was $40 bucks. I have a warranty on the ring from the jeweler but it won't cover theft or loss, just loss of stones or wear/tear repairs etc.  By insuring it, I am covering all contingencies.
  • Thanks ladies.  My fiancee just got our rings insured today through our renter's policy.
