hotel weddings

My maid of honor just got engaged and she is thinking about having a wedding at a hotel since there will be a lot of OOT guests. Does anyone have any suggestions? I haven't seen many people on here having their weddings at a hotel that I can remember. I know she does not have a huge budget. Do hotels tend to be more or leass expensive? Any thoughts/ideas/advice? thanks!

I'm getting married at the Mermaid in Mounds View and they have a hotel attached which is a lot of why we chose that location as well.  The guests can stay at the hotel for $99/night which I thought was pretty reasonable.

We looked at Radisson in Roseville.  Nice venue but it did not accommodate enough people for our reception.  It would be worth looking at.

Don't let the lack of hotel weddings on the board here stop her, but also she should be aware that many venues are very close to hotels (ie McNamara Alumni Center has a tunnel to the Radisson), and there are hotels that will offer free shuttles to your venue for you and your guests (we arranged for this at our hotel for free with our room block).  Just an FYI!

You could also do Windows on MN, as the Marquette is basically attached.

I am having mine at Oak Ridge Hotel and Conference Center in Chaska.  It has 2 or 3 outdoor ceremony locations, an indoor ceremony location and 2 indoor reception locations.  They worked with my budget but I am also getting married on a Friday evening (much cheaper than a Saturday wedding).  I think it is $109/night for guests.

We are doing ours at the Embassy Suites in Brooklyn Center.  Pricier then other non-hotel venues we looked at, but in the end we decided that we would rather spend a bit more for the convience since over half our guest list are OOT. We looked at the Marriot West (Nice but another wedding across the hall on same day), Northland Inn (room looked really dingy + another wedding on same day), and Crowne Plaza North. (most expensive).  In the end the Embassy Suites was nice, private, and middle price point.  A big plus is the the events coordinator has been beyond helpful with all my 'silly' questions.

We are having ours at the White Bear Country Inn in WBL. About half of our guests are OOT and having our reception at a hotel was one thing FI really wanted. The rooms are nice and we're getting them for $89/night. I haven't had the food, but it's supposed to be pretty good and it's somewhere around $24-$27/plate for most entrees. At first I felt limited in venues since we were only looking at hotels, but now I'm really glad because it will be so convenient for our guests.

One idea is the Earle Browne Event Center, which is beautiful and very popular for weddings and receptions. There is a Double Tree hotel on the property right next door to the wedding venue.

We had our wedding at the Mermaid in Mounds View in January '09 and I LOVED the experience there!  It was fantastic, all our guests raved about it and it was so great to know that there was a hotel attached that they could stay at if they had a bit too much to drink (which a few did...).

If you click on my married bio in my siggy, you can read my full vendor review on the Mermaid.

I would absolutely recommend them in a heartbeat!!!

One of my BMs is having her wedding at the Marriott Minneapolis Southwest. They gave her a group room rate of $79 a night and the reception banquet hall is beautiful!
