Minnesota Vikings theme wedding?

hello, so as i was reading responses to my previous posts about favors i got to researching some online and my fiance and i found some personalized sports ticket invites very interesting and from there it grew into ideas of the sports cards as favors. I think it could be alot of fun!!! My fiance and I are huge Vikings fans, hence our profile picture, and he has been a season ticket holder for 6 years and i have attended most of the home games this year also. Anyways, would a Vikings / sports themed wedding be cheesy??????? Also any ideas to expand on ours would be greatly appreciated in deciding if this is meant for us!!!!

I think it'd be cheesy, but endearing if that's the type of people you two are.  I had a friend- huge vikes fans- do a gold and purple themed wedding, so not outright Vikings but everyone still got the hint.  It was fitting for them.

I say do what makes you happy and keeps your day memorable!

Hoping your wedding is at least complete by next season...we probably wont have a team after that :-(
We all have our own touches and I think that is sweet. I was given my engagement ring in my Wild stocking Lol So I know how it goes for the love of "your" team...best wishes

IMO you could def do the purple and gold colors, but I wouldn't plaster the vikings logo everywhere. It might look more like a kids party. I'm sure you could do a classy verson no problem though!

As huge sports fans ourselves, we decided to keep it within a "season" theme (Fall) and then expand and have little touches around the reception to show off our love for the Twins, Vikings and Wild. We are doing are table numbers with pictures of us at each sport (or some sporting event for the team... Fi's dad owns season tickets to each sport and so he gets invited to a lot of extra things for the team) but also we decided to have a "guest book" as a jersey. We will ask everyone to sign a personalized jersey then we're going to have it framed and hang it in our basement along with all of our sports stuff.
I think doing an entire wedding around the Vikings will be a bit over kill, but in the end if that is who you and your FI are, go for it. Like PP says, stick with maybe just the colors and forego the logos etc. HTH

I think Vikings is a little cheesy, especialy for a wedding. Do purple and champagne for your colors or something. Not to mention, they are horrible this year!

I knew someone who did this too-they had the BMs in purple/lilac dresses and the guys had gold vests and ties.

It's definitely one of those themes that can turn cheesy and tacky VERY easily, so maybe incorporate it into smaller details as opposed to the bigger ones- the invitations would be a good medium to do it.

I agree with most of the other posts about it being a little cheesy to have your over all theme be vikings.  But you can choose colors you love and then incorporate the vikings in ways that you want.  For example have a vikings garter, maybe use a vikings themes grooms cake,  and you could even make the groomsems name cards with little vikings logos on them or something.  My Fiance is also a HUGE vikings fan, but I wouldn't want that taking over the wedding.  So, I will most likely stick to a vikings garter also.

I agree, it could go tacky/cheesy really easily.  I'd try to stay away from the logo, but just use the colors.  FI is a huge football fan (his team is the Cowboys, but he always watches when the Vikings play), but I can't stand it.  I'd also reconsider the favors.  Unless everyone already collects sports cards, they're going to get left behind or thrown away, because nobody wants a random card of some athlete they've never heard of or don't care about.

I think the PPs have given you great advice.  If it's something you're passionate about, by all means include it into your wedding.  I think it could very quickly turn cheesy if you go all out on the theme, though.  You could tone it down a little with the colors by using lilac and pale yellow instead of the Vikings' bold purple and gold, for example.

You could do cute table numbers that are Vikings' Jersey numbers, etc.  Or incorporate pictures of you two at the games for the table numbers.  Small things like that.  Even get a 'grooms' cake that represents the team?

Thank you for all the responses they have been very helpful and appreciated. After thinking about it overnight, I have decided that the whole Vikings theme would be a little cheesy and even just going with their colors I wouldnt care for just cuz i dont really like the color purple. I think I am just being indecisive...been thinking about the fall color combinations but now am interested in the brown and pink combo too. lol    this is so much fun but stressful at the same time when i dont really know what i want......

    Ditto PPs, it's kinda cheesy.

SIL got married last year, both she and her husband are huge Hawkeye fans. They had a really nice fall theme, but at the reception they had a big inflatable mascot in the corner, and for the DJ table, they had jack o lanterns that spelled out "HAWKEYES" - one letter per pumpkin. I think they also had a string of mascot lights on the head table. It wasn't TOO ridiculous looking, and most of the guests were huge fans too, so it worked for them. Something like that may work for you.

    Good Luck!

I agree with pps that it would be cheesy. As someone who doesn't like sports at all, if I were a guest I'd be turned off if there was Viking stuff all over or if I got a Vikings favor. I agree that doing the colors is fine, as well as a groom's cake, but including it elsewhere would probably detract from the class of the event.

  • Better late than never.... Vikings wedding theme = awesome. I don't believe in taking things too seriously and it's definitely something everyone would remember. I hope you went through with it and if so, post pictures!  Some people don't understand what it means to bleed purple.... :) Oh, and also: SKOL VIKES!!!
