Invitation Downer...

After work today my mom & I went to the printer to get the invites printed.  The guy was super helpful & was great with helping us figuring everything out.

He then figured out the cost for us... To do what we want, they would charge us $350 for 100 each or our invites, inserts & RSVP postcards!!

I instantly felt sick to my stomach when he said that number.  My mom said if that's what I really want, they'll pay it, but I just can't do that.  That's way to much for invitations, IMO.  I told her no, we're not doing that, so now I have to totally redesign all of our invites to make them work & be cheaper...  = (

I was so happy to be getting them printed & now I'm in a complete funk because it's not working out...

I just had to vent it out here, knowing that you ladies would understand.   So frustrated!  = (

I'm so sorry Andrea, I know you have put a lot of time and love into your current design!  What is driving the cost up for your current set-up?

    Thanks Anna!

The color background, mainly.  When he took the color out of the price, it brought us down to $109, which is much more reasonable.

But when I take out the color background it looks so boring to me!  So I'm trying to figure something else out now... But just getting frustrated with the whole thing!

Could you do a color paper? Or a natural fiber paper that has a little more visual interest...? We did ours in total grey scale because of the price difference. We had ours printed and cut at office max and it was $26 for three inserts with 80 copies of each.

I was going through the same stuff earlier this week.  But I decided if I used pearlescent embossed paper with color ink it's way less boring.

If you really want them, get them and then just don't buy a new pair of shoes or a new dress this year and spend the money on them. In 4 months you won't remember that you spent an additional $250 on invitations.

Could you just print them at home?  That's what I did, well on my aunts printer because she has a really nice one.  At least then you'd just have to pay for the ink?  I hope you get something figured out!

Andrea - we decided to print at home. I actually bought a nice printer earlier this year for this purpose... We can do all of our invites with 3 ink cartridges each and we bought nice paper from Anchor Paper in bulk really cheap! The total cost to print was $100 and I'm doing them in color... :)

Is your background similar to the background you put on my map & directions? If so I printed mine at home and they turned out great. Just an idea...hope you don't have to do to much work on redesigning them.

Could you upload your design to VistaPrint or one of the other invitation places? we got our invites for about $160 from VistaPrint.  I used one of their designs, but I'm pretty sure they have some options where you can upload your own designs.
