FI and I decided we aren't having a traditional wedding cake, since neither of us particularly love cake, and my aunt is making us a kransekage, which I don't like but FI does (its a traditional scandinavian celebration dessert - tastes kinda like biscotti), so it was left up to me to find something I liked as the alternative dessert.

I am qston, and I like cookies. There I said it.

I want to do a dessert table with a bunch of cookie jars that people can choose from.

So today I get to go taste cookies. I have a list of about 6-7 bakeries to go hit up.

I don't have any suggestions, but just wanna say that I think this is absolutely brilliant! I do like cake...but I love cookies as well! I hope you fill us in on the cookie quest!

Well, in all my errand running today, I only actaully made it to 3 bakeries before I realized most of them on my list had already closed. (thanks for the additions ladies!)

So I got Bakers Wife, Birchwood, and Rustica.

I love other things at all three of these places, so I felt confident in their cookies.

I was most disappointed with Bakers Wife. The cookies were ENORMOUS, and super dry, and almost a 1/2 inch thick... too much cookie. Rustica was what I thought would be my favorite, but I really only loved one of their cookies (the bittersweet chocolate). My faves were birchwood, where I was also lucky enough to talk to their baker, and find out that for catering they offer three cookie sizes, so that was good info. Their cookies were chewy and yummy, and he confirmed for me that they do a lemon cookie. MMMMM.

I still want to try others, so I have more to compare, but I am actually glad I only got to 3 bakeries today. tasting all of those was rather intense, I can't imagine having to eat that much cookie, and I like cookies! (we are bringing a lot of 1/2 and 3/4 of dried out cookies to my parents for easter tomrrow!)

I will keep you posted as we make it to more!

I second the chocolate and oatmeal cookies at Great Harvest Bread Company, yummmm.  If we weren't doing caramel apples for our favors I was thinking of doing these as they are so good!  Good luck on your cookie search!

Great idea!  Just a heads up that most reception places don't allow food made by non-licensed bakers (for health code reasons).  You might want to check into that with your aunt's dessert, in case you haven't already.

LOL DC! My fave cookies come from a place in Bowling Green, Ohio called the Cookie Jar. They deliver cookies the same way a pizza place delivers pizza...and it is brilliant. Cookies are made to order, so they arrive fresh to your door! Also, they have cookies of the day, so there is always something new to try (aside from their every day faves like chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and oatmeal raisin)...oh god I want them NOW!

Also, I think the owners are geniuses and need to open up a store in Chicago...preferably on my block :-).

I Want Cake

The plain sugar cookies (round, not shaped) at Woullet are the standard by which I judge all other sugar cookies.  They also make beautiful and delicious macaroons.

I second the love of Great Harvest's oatmeal choco chip cookies, but they're quite large.  However, you can buy the dry mix there and make your own.

Bread and Chocolate makes really incredible peanut butter cookies.  They're pretty huge, too, but maybe you can work out a special order for smaller ones.  They're at Victoria/Grand in St. Paul.

D'Amico and Sons have pretty good cookies, too, but they're way expensive.

FYI, I believe at Great Harvest there is an option to get smaller cookies too.  That's what it says on their website at least.  Pretty sure when I called the Minnetonka one they said that too, can't remember exactly though.
