Crowne Plaza wedding block won't be filled - Recommendations???

Hi everyone!  I almost never post on here, but I"m desperate for recommendations.  We're getting married in St Paul on September 29th and have a room block with the Crowne Plaza St. Paul Riverfront.  We were expecting to have about 2/3 show up because of all of the people who have to travel, but we have more like 1/2 coming and many people coming without significant others.  So, many people decided to split rooms, especially at the Crowne Plaza, which is the cheaper of the two hotels.  So, now we only have about half of our contracted room block filled, and we're stuck looking at a $2300 bill essentially for nothing.  They said they won't do anything until after the wedding, but is there anything we can do beforehand??  This is just INSANELY frustrating for us.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions....

Re: Crowne Plaza wedding block won't be filled - Recommendations???

  • As far as I know, you shouldn't be charged for a hotel block in the first place or have to put down a deposit. I've always read that that's a red flag. The rooms should be on your guests to pay for, not you. The hotel I have a block with didn't require a deposit, nor are they making us pay for rooms that aren't filled.

I guess I'd really review the contract you have to see how they handle rooms that aren't filled and maybe take off those extra rooms since you know you won't need them? They can always add them back if more reservations come in.

  • No recommendations here - their policy for billing you for the unused rooms is the #1 reason we refused to use them for a block.
  • We have a room block with Crowne Plaza-RIverfront in St. Paul too, but one month out from our wedding (Oct. 27, 2012) they will release all the rooms to the public. Also, they gave us a complimentary 10 room block to start and we never added more rooms to it.

    Good luck!
