NWR, Hay Fever!

Did anyone else just get slammed upside the nose with hay-fever this week? I have never had allergies before and then yesterday, of course on my way out of town for work, I get slammed with a plugged up nose and a case of the sneezes. I am told this year was awesome for ragweed pollen so I am assuming that is the culprit. I hit Target tonight for some of the awesome, show three forms of ID and give them your left arm, decongestant. Seems to be helping... Does anyone else have any sure fire treatments to turn of the nasal faucet? Any advice would be lovely.

Ugh- this year has been terrible for my allergies. Not only are my sinuses all plugged up but my ears are too- I'm on the second prescription for them and can't seem to get them unplugged. I'm getting used to the dizziness from it but am really tired of not being able to hear anything (and FI is getting sick of me saying "What?" all the time). What has helped me is my netti pot. I swear by it and also haven't had a cold in the two years since I started using it. It takes some getting used to, but it's darn amazing!

Wow, they haven't been bugging me, but SO many people I know have them something fierce right now!

I'm not sure about this, but FI and a few of his friends swear by locally made honey. I think the theory is that since it's made locally, there are pollens or whatever in the honey that are making your allergies act up, so it almost works like immunizations do. You can usually find them at co-ops or natural food stores. FI actually just went to the co-op by his office b/c his allergies have been torturing him for a few days, and he said it made him feel a lot better.

(Disclaimer -- he bought a new bottle today, and it's already down to the neck of the bear-shaped bottle, so it may just be a sugar high that's making him feel better. But it probably can't hurt to try...)

My allergies have been kicking my ass all summer.... it's been brutal. Zyrtec is the only thing that works for me.

FWIW- i've also heard the local honey thing.  I'm trying it next summer!

I agree with fellow allergy-sufferers.  These past couple weeks have been horrible!  I was absolutely miserable a couple days ago with stuffed-up nose, runny eyes, headache, even some nausea!  Even with meds it was still pretty rough.  I switched the filter in our furnace/AC and that seemed to help my symptoms a little!

Yeppers, I was fine until this week....I usually just do generic Claritin, but have been on generic Zyrtec for about a week, but I think that just makes me sleepy.  Dunno, might have to switch back to my old faithful meds.  I loathe allergies, they are miserable to deal with.  I'm curious abt that local honey thing too, might have to try it!
