Wedding Band Question

Hello!  I have a question I'm hoping you could help me with.  I went to get my wedding band on Saturday, and the woman helping us told me to get the wedding band a 1/2 size bigger than my engagement ring.  She said that they fit differently, and that they always recommend to do that.  Does this sound familiar to you?  Is your band the same size or different than your engagement ring?

The band will have diamonds all the way around it, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Re: Wedding Band Question

  • I think this is a little strange but maybe she has met a lot of women who size it larger so they can wear it during pregnancy?  It sounds really presumptuous though.

Also, keep in mind a ring with stones all the way around cannot be re-sized in the future so that would be all the more reason not to go with the salesperson's advice.
  • My band is the same size as my engagement ring.  As Penny said, if it is an eternity band (diamonds going all the way around), it will not be as easy to resize. I also think it would be presumptious to just assume that you would be one size up from your e-ring.

Some brands and styles run a little differently from others, so I would just say, make sure you try on a few sizes of the band you want to purchase to make sure you get the right fit.
  • My band is actually a half-size smaller than my e-ring. This is beacue it will sit lower on my finger than the e-ring. With the band my e-ring sits almost on the joint (just below it so I can still bend) so it has to be a little bigger. When we sized my e-ring we went with the bigger size for that purpose and in case I bloat during the summer heat.

  • I've never heard this before. EVER. and since your having diamonds all the way around you won't be able to re-size it without losing diamonds aftwards so I'd suggest getting the size that fits you now, not 1/2 size larger which btw a 1/2 in rings is a HUGE difference! we're not talking shoes here...

  • I wish my jeweler did this. My wedding band is the same size as the e-ring and apparently the width of both rings on at once makes it tighter for some reason. I had a harder time removing them from my finger together even though they were in the same size. I'll have to have them both resized once they're soldered.

  • Our jewler told us the same thing - that having my wedding band a 1/2 size larger would be best since the ring will fit differently with both on. I ordered it larger and it fits fine that way.

  • My wedding band is the same size as my e-ring and they fit perfectly.  Maybe it depends on the ring?  I would just try them on together and see how they feel & look. My band only has diamonds half way around so maybe its different for different rings?

  • My ring and band are the same size. If anything they need to be sized down!
