Ugh! Ceremony site help please.... AGAIN!

So frustrating. Long story short: We went to see Trellis Events in Stillwater. Loved it. They said, " Get ahold of us by the 1st of January, no rush, and we'll contract up everything that we agreed on" (ps. our wedding is in 2012, so that's why they told us to wait). Aaand all of a sudden they raised their rates by a couple hundred and we're expected to pay the higher amount. Obviously they didn't REALLY do something wrong, but it seems a little unethical to me. They def. made it sound like we would be locking the in price that we discussed. ANYWAY, here's the thing. Now we're on the search again because we can't afford the higher price. We're looking at the Lake Harriet bandshell, the Father Hennepin Bluffs bandshell thingy, and Camrose Hill Farm. Does anyone have anything to say about these places? Also, it doesn't say on the website how spendy Camrose is... any idea? Thanks guys :)

Oh, that is super not cool on Trellis's part.  I would be frustrated too.

I don't know anything about Camrose though, sorry.

I know you can rent the Historic Courthouse in Stillwater for just the ceremony.  I believe it is just about $1,000.

I think the Lake Harriet bandshell and the Father Hennepin Bluffs will run you $500 for a 3-hour block, and it's a pre-appointed block, so you have to take what they'll give you (that's how it is for Cowles Conservatory, which sucks because we have to have our ceremony a couple hours earlier than I wanted).  You'll need to go through the Mpls Parks Board to get your permit and they're really strict about being there only during your allotted time.  If you need to stay longer for pictures, you may have to get (and pay for) another permit.

This may be a stupid question, but did you talk to either Sherri or Sally at Trellis about it? If I were you I'd tell them you were planning on booking with Trellis but that it's now out of your budget. With how fabulous they were to work with for our wedding, I would be surprised if they weren't willing to give you the better rate. Both us and our guests LOVED it there and Sherri and Sally were always both super sweet.

Thanks for the info about the parks. So when you turn in your application, you get no say in what time they end up giving you? That really sucks! I didn't know that was how it works. I don't think we'd have an issue with the 2 hr time limit, but I'm pretty specific about the time that I want. Especially since we're so far out... I feel like I should be able to have a choice, ya know? One thing I was wondering about the LH Bandshell, does anyone know how sound is in there? I could see it being kind of echoey. And yes, Sherri was actually the one I was emailing. When we went to Trellis, we did the tour with Sally. I was very surprised by what they said too.... they seemed genuinely nice. And I'm sure they are! I'm just a little disappointed with how this has played out.

No, I totally understand that... I'm just disappointed with how they told us that we should sign the contract by the first (Jan. 1st, specifically) to be able to get the price that we discussed. It's totally their right to raise prices BUT they knew that we couldn't raise our budget anymore and that's why they told us to sign by a specific date. So we could be assured to get the price at what it is now.
