Alterations Recommendations

Besides Louise?  I'll call her again tonight, but she was very rude and short with me when I called a few weeks ago to set up appointments.  I'd like to chat with at least one other person before I decide.

TIA

I have NO idea if they do dress alterations but Tom's tailors always comes very highly recommended.  Also - if you stop in at the Wedding Shoppe, ask for Sodarrah's card (I cant' remember her last name).  She did some miracle work on my sister's bridesmaid dress that our previous tailor completely botched.  We took my bridesmaid dresses to her and she did a great job.  Works out of her house in Eagan and her daughter works with her as well.  She used to be one of the seamstresses at the Wedding Shoppe but I don't know that she works there anymore - she might be solo now.

I had my gown altered at the Wedding Shoppe and it wasn't a good experience.

I think I'm going to a place called Mighty Stitch in north Minneapolis. It's out of my way, but just a couple blocks from FstepSIL's where I'm keeping my dress for the time being. I brought a bunch of random things to them to test them out, including a jacket w/seams coming undone in the back and weird material that was starting to fray. They did a really good job, and all I really need is a hem.

Not sure what the dress will cost, but I had a re-hem on a pair of pants, a hem and darts put into a pair of jeans, and the jacket. All that stuff was about $25.

Louise was a little short with me when I first contacted her, too. I think she's just super busy right now and puts more of her energy into focusing on the customer when they're in person.

I've had too fittings with her so far... and she's been 100% great... but I wouldn't blame you for looking elsewhere.

I think I am going to have my aunt do mine. She is a seamstress. The only problem is she is in Wausau, WI so it is a few hour drive.

If your dress isn't a ballgown, I would recommend Tonya Gorelik.  She does the work out of her home and just doesn't have the space to properly do a ballgown.  She's excellent and very inexpensive. I've taken many a dress to her and always ended up amazed with what she could do. She's in Plymouth and is a cute little older Russian lady who will talk your ear off.

Ditto Maybe. I've had 3 fittings with Louise and every time I've been there her phone rings a few times. So she grabs it while you're in the dressing room but has to keep it short b/c she's got you walking out in your dress. I wouldn't judge her or her work by that, but I understand you have to go with what you're comfortable with.  She is a total pleasure to work with though, for real. And her work is great - and cheap!

    good luck!

ETA - sorry, I didn't really answer your question. answer fail!

I am meeting with Sue Willis in Burnsville (actually tonight!)- She has done a few friends of mine and has come highly recommended and is reasonable. She does the alterations for Loft Bridal Shop but it is a side job for her and I think that is why her prices are so good. I will let you know how it goes!
