Rent Wedding Dress?

I'm not sure I'm going this route yet or not, but I figure why not shop around...

Has anyone rented their wedding dress or does anyone know where to go to rent one in the cities? I'm hoping to be able to find something for under $200!!

If you can find a dress to rent I say go for it! My only concern would be the fit of the dress. Would they allow you to tailor a rented dress? Also I don't know of any shops that rent dresses but there are several consignment shops where you could buy a used dress.

As EmilyCMN mentioned, the tailoring could be the kicker.  If you can find something that fits perfectly great, but tailoring alone could wipe out your budget depending on where you go.   I just got quoted $300 to tailor my dress which only cost $299 in the first place, but I know there are much cheaper options out there.

Another great alternative would be to buy a used wedding gown, which can save you a ton.

-Locally you can check out Brides of France, Classy Consignments, or check the craiglist and Knot classifieds.

-The "I Do Redo" sale is also coming up and they have used dresses and other great items from local brides.  Tickets are free if you email them, here is the website:  http://www.idoredosale.com/

-On-line it would be worth checking out used wedding dress sites like http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/

Ditto PPs -- I would try to buy a used dress before I'd rent one. Depending on what you're looking for, you might be able to find a new dress that fits your budget. I wanted something pretty simple, and was able to get it for $250 at David's Bridal. I walked away w/the sample so I wouldn't have to deal with ordering something. My budget for the dress was $500 with alterations, and i was able to get that plus my jewelery and shoes for just under that amount.
