?Service Charge

So...can anyone help me clarify something?  Is or isn't a "service charge" equivalent to a tip?  If a service charge is tacked on, are you also required to tip on top of that?  What exactly is a service charge with regards to a wedding reception?

Thanks for helping me clear up this detail that's been annoying me :)

Personally I feel like the service charge is a sufficient enough of a tip. Maybe rules say you are supposed to tip more but, in my mind I feel like thousands of dollars is an ample tip.

The service charge doesn't include a tip to the bartenders or the servers that are working at your wedding, they get an hourly wage so if you would like to tip them seperate....say $25-50 a person, then I would do that....it's not much out of your pocket but would be really nice for them to make a little something extra that night. But you in no means would tip them 20% of the meal cost haha.

That service charge makes me mad....they are already charging outrageous prices for the food and taxes....then tack on a service fee!
