New Here - Getting Married in May

Hello! I'm new here and wanted to just say hello. We are gettng married in May and we can't wait. We have most of the big stuff taken care of (flowers, catering, site, my dress, BM dresses, photographer), but we are still looking for a DJ. We also need to do our invitations.....does anyone have any good ideas about those? Should we order online or print our own? We are on a tight budget, so we need something less expensive.

I'm also wondering if there is a Mpls May 2010 wedding board. I would like to join that as well!

Thanks!

Welcome!  This is your site for all things Minneapolis/St. Paul.  There's a wedding board for May 2010, but not for the combo of the two.  You'll find there are many Knotties here getting married in May.  Feel free to ask us anything!

    Welcome!

For invitations, I have several friends who have used Invitations for Less in Minnetonka, and been very happy with the results.  I don't have the time or energy to DIY invitations, so I'll probably be using them as well.

Welcome. I am getting married in May too. I ordered my invites from Vista Print. I got a great deal on invites, reception cards, response cards, and Thank you cards.

Welcome!! This board rocks, bottom line.

As for invites, a lot of people on a budget tend to go with the "print-your-own" kind that you can get at Target, Joann's, or Michael's.

Hi!  I was going to use 123print.com for my invitations but decided to go with an Etsy vendor for a more personalized look.  You can find some great deals on 123print.  And of course the Target and Michael's DIY kits.

As far as DJs, I highly recommend Neon Express.  They're inexpensive but still top quality, and both the DJs are great at getting a crowd up and dancing, and very fun.

    Welcome!

We did DIY invites from Michaels (tip: if you buy something at Michaels, they usually give you a coupon for 40 - 50% off one item for the next week.  We used 4 of these coupons to buy our invites).

Neon Express gets great reviews on this board for being affordable and good quality.

Welcome!  I'm also a May bride...counting the days!

I second vistaprint.com for your invitations on a budget--we purchased 200 invites, fancy envelopes, rsvp cards, and plain envelopes to go wtih the rsvp cards for $235 total to give you an idea of cost.  One thing to know about that--because it is cheaper to buy in bulk at vistaprint, it was cheaper to buy 200 than it was to buy 150...so think about that when ordering whatever your numbers:)

Good luck finding what's best for you!

Welcom! I am a June bride, but am also on a budget as we have a HUGE guest list.  For our  512 guests, I got all of our invite supplies for $92....at the Paper Depot in Minneapolis.  I highly suggest them...they will work with you to design your own invites any way you like for your budget. Also...I was able to get my invites to mail for the regular postage price since they are under regular weight! They are fantastic!  Then we are just printing at home.

    Good luck!

I'm a May bride, too!  Welcome!  This board is fabulous.

I was going to go the vistaprint route, but I decided to have them designed by an etsy seller instead.  We are working with ellaspaper...and she is fabulous.  She is designing the digital file and we will be printing it out at the Postnet in Highland Park. She charges $20 for the invite (with lots of customization) and $10 for each insert.

    Welcome!!

I am planning to use Instant Request for our DJ.  I've heard wonderful things about them.    www.instantrequest.com

Welcome!  I love this board (more than the national ones usually, I must admit...)  If you're thinking about doing the vistaprint route, make sure you sign up for their email list.  Yes, you'll get a lot of spam from them, but it's all great deals (usually free stuff.)

MN Jen- will postnet print custom size pages too? Are they pretty reasonable?? I found an etsy seller I really love, but I'm worried about the printing portion...
