How far is too far?

Okay, got the church, downtown Buffalo. Next step: reception location. How far is too far to ask the guests to drive to the reception?
Trying to keep it within half an hour. Any suggestions for locations? Golf courses, ballrooms, warehouses...?

I think a lot of it depends on your guests.... we're having the ceremony and reception at the same venue and the hotels are pretty close by.  FI and I knew most of our OOT guests wouldn't be comfortable driving all over the Twin Cities (I'm from a smaller town in WI), so we choose to keep it simple.

If I was a guest, I wouldn't want to travel more than 20 minutes or so between venues IMO.

I agree, I'd aim for no more than 20 min, but IMO, for sure no more than 30min. I'm from a small town too, so I know a lot of my guests aren't comfortable driving in the Cities.

I am not sure about locations but there is about a 25 min drive from our ceremony to the reception site - it is just what ended up working for us. The ceremony is in White Bear where I grew up and the reception is right by the new TCF stadium at the U.

I'd say no more than 30 mins, ideally 20 mins. There are many options near Buffalo - Riverwood Inn in Otsego, Wellstead in Rogers, Rockwoods in Otsego, B's on the River in Watertown... A quick Google search for "banquets" near Buffalo gave a pretty big list: link

we had looked at riverwood inn, and the rockwoods in otsego, both seemed to be very nice, and the staff were awesome.

eek! Reading these have made me feel nervous! Our church is about 45 mins from our reception.  Fiance is from a small town south of the Twin Cities and we decided to have it at his church and then the reception is on the south edge of the cities.  He has a very large and closenit family so although they may not be thrilled about the drive I know they will do it! And as for everyone else, I guess if they choose to just come to the reception that is fine as well!

You may find that some guests will skip the ceremony and attend the reception, especially if the church is really far out of the way, though I find doing that incredibly tacky!
