NWR- Slimgenics..?

So, I wanted to see if anyone on here has joined Slimgenics. I have about 40 extra pounds to lose, and all of my previous efforts in the last few years have failed... so I'm ready to try just about anything. I've read all sorts of good stuff about Slimgenics, but I want an actual person that I actually (sort of) know to tell me it works.

Weight Watchers intimidates me with the whole group meeting mentality... and I don't like any of the pre-made meal programs like NutriSystem, because I end up being allergic to half the things they try to sell you (I'm terribly allergic to NutriSweet/aspartame.) So, Slimgenics seems like the way to go if I want professionally-assisted-weight-loss... but I want to make sure it's not a crock of s*** before I pay a bunch of money.

Also, if anyone can clue me in to a ballpark cost for the program, that would help a lot, too. All the website says is "it can vary depending on the weight and how quickly you need to lose it" but I want to know what that varied range is!

Aww don't be intimidated by Weight Watchers :) If you don't like the group meeting idea I believe you can follow the program through their website for a fee as well,  although I find actually having to go to a meeting and weigh-in holds me more accountable which is what really helped me lose the 20 lbs I hadn't been doing on my own!

But unfortunately I don't know anything about Slimgenics but I know there are a few others on here that do.

    Good luck! :)

    Slimgenics is FREAKING AMAZING!

I've kinda really screwed myself up since thanksgiving, and I need to get back on track, because my average was 4.3 pounds a week for four weeks.  I felt amazing.  Life just got super busy and it is a diet that you have to have time to prepare meals and such.

There is so much to say, and if you are interested I could PM you phone number or something and we could chat about it if you want, or if you have specific questions I can answer those.  I have a PM I sent Shan when she was thinking about it, and I'll forward it on to you.

The cost is up there, though.  For 40 pounds, I would guess the upfront costs for consultations and whatever is about $450.  You have to pay that all at the beginning.  The vitamins and supplements (not required but they really really help) are about $170 a month, and the snacks (required) are $32 a week.

I'm doing Slimgenics and Enchanted was the one to convince me to give it a try. IMO its expensive but you really can't put a price on your health or looking DIANOMITE in your wedding dress.

My goal is also 40lbs and I'm down 10lbs (3 weeks) I lost 4 lbs the first day just doing their cleanse and have lost 3lbs a week since. I haven't been the greatest at sticking to the plan but I have still managed to loose every week. I can also give you more details in a PM if interested.

In the end I vote for going with whatever system works for you.  What I can tell you is that Weight Watchers is a lot cheaper and it has really worked for me. I've been on it off and on and plan to go back to it seriously after Christmas.  When I've gone on the program and strictly followed it, I usually lose 5-6 pounds in the first week and then about 1-2 pounds thereafter on plan.  For me the meetings are really important and it is all about finding the one with the right mix of people.  I know it can be a bit intimidating to step into your first one, but I think you'd find the support and accountability helpful. Otherwise the on-line program is really cheap and a good option.

Good luck on your weight loss journey!

I have used a free website called nutrimirror in the past.  http://www.nutrimirror.com/

It helps you lose weight be keeping track of your calories and exercise, and helping you make healthy choices.

Plus there is a message board and the people are super helpful and friendly!

I vote for WW, because they don't force you to buy any of their foods and there are no 'cleanses' involved.

WW just got COMPLETELY revamped and I think the new system will be far more successful.  I'm starting up the in-person meetings again this week at work, but I've been loosely doing the e-tools. The new system now looks at fat, carbs, protein, and fiber.  I think it's way more well-rounded than the old system (fat, cals, fiber)... fruits are 'free' too! :)

If you're intimidated by the wight-ins, etc, you can choose to do WW all online. I think it's slightly cheaper that way too.  If you have any questions at all, let me know! I'd be more than willing to let you see some of my e-tools stuff (so long as you don't go blabbing my weight to everyone. haha.)

Where are you located? I'm trying to find someone to go to meetings with over in this area... I'm in the Roseville area.

The thing that I didn't like about WW is that it wasn't really all that healthy.. you could still eat fast food if thats what you wanted to spend your points on, you know? I have heard that they are redoing their system now.  Slimgenics is also just all about the FAST results (WW says 1-2 pounds a week, slimgenics is 3-5) in a very healthy way and keeping it off.  I'm not gonna lie, I've been totally off program for the past two weeks and I haven't gained even an ounce back.

Plus, I love the one-on-one support instead of big meetings.   They are always so upbeat and supportive, you feel like they honestly really care if you lose weight and how you are feeling.

<div>That's true... but you should also take responsibility for yourself.  Technically, on Slimgenics, couldn't you still go 'cheat' and grab fast food?  I mean, regardless of what kind of 'diet' you're on, you can always cheat if you don't have enough self control.</div><div>
</div><div>Part of the reason I like WW is that I've learned just how much fast food 'costs' me.  When I look and realize I can stop and get breakfast at McD, but it costs me 24 points (on the old system, it's probably more now.)... </div><div>Overall, I think WW is far more productive in teaching you healthy eating habits that will last the rest of your life.  I know a few people who did WW for one month, got the info, and then just followed the plans on their own for free after that.  </div>

That's what my mom, sister in-law & I are doing!  We were all on WW for a year or so, at different times.  Now we follow the plan & meet once a week to talk about our ups & downs & set goals for ourselves for the next week.  We've been doing it for a year or so, & between the 3 of us we've lost 60 lbs!!  = ) To us, it's all about not letting the diet or plan run your life, but to be mindful off what you're putting in your mouth!

    Good luck!  = )

Yeah, I tried WW online before and it did absolutely nothing for me. I liked some of the recipes, but that was about it. I never lost any signifcant weight. I think there's something about my metabolism that the points thing just didn't tap into. That, and with the online system, it's easier to lose hold of your accountability and think "meh... I'll just take this weekend off from counting points." I want someone to keep me on target... but I don't necessarily want an entire group of peers doing so.

I'm not totally keen on the "cleanse" concept at the beginning of Slimgenics, but from what I've read, it sounds like the actual diet is pretty well-crafted and nutritionally sound. I don't know.

I'm going to mull it over.

I lost over 30 lbs doing WW online...I highly recommend it!! They have message boards, just like here on theknot, and you can "meet" people in your area, with the same amount of weight to lose, etc and usually people form their own online groups based on that which helps with the accountability. Its just like how you check in on theknot daily, you would just check in on WW daily. People will sometimes list what they ate that day, share recipes, discuss workout routines, etc. Not to mention, its cheaper than going to the meetings (which I wasn't really into anyway). I have maintained my weight for the most part, maybe gaining about 10 pounds back...but at the end I think I was a bit too skinny for my taste anyway, so it just balanced out.

I'm intrigued by their new program and kinda wanna check it out just to see how its different, and perhaps to see if it would help me to maintain a bit better. Let ,me know if you have any questions!

Ditto this. Completely. You can eat a fast food buger on WW but then you're going to have practically no points left for the rest of your meals. I loved WW, I lost 25 lbs and while I didn't do it online, I generally would just go weigh in every week but then leave before the meetings due to my schedule. Worked great for me.

I tried Slimgenics and WW, neither really clicked for me, although I did see results with Slimgenics, they were not what promised and I wasn;t even cheating.  Plus, I have a limited budget, so buying all the extras plus fresh food for cooking really added up quickly.  My mom has successfully used WW many times, however, she is the quintessential yoyo dieter and will eventualy add it back on, only to lose it again.  I am just starting a program FI is doing, Herbalife.  He is trying to lose weight and gain muscle for Police school and talked me into trying the program.  So far, its super easy.  It's a high protein based program.  You made a shake for breakfast and lunch, with 2 high protein snacks throughout the day, witha healthy meal at night.  The protein really gives me energy and I feel full for a while.  The shakes are easy since I work crazy long hours and I can shake up a shake, drink it and go.  PM if you want more information.
