NWR: partylite

A neighbor of mine starting selling Partylite and wants me to host a party (like a Mary Kay kind of thing?).  I've never been to a Partylite party before.  Have any of you?  Are they good products?  It looks like candles and maybe some baking stuff?  I don't mind hosting a party, but only if the products are good.
Any thoughts?

I went to one at the end of last year. They had a lot of nice things and the lady brought samples of a lot of thier candle scents. I really like their candles.  The votives actually burn through all the wax in way that there is none left in the container when it's through burning, which is pretty nifty if you ask me, no unused wax. They have a pretty great and unique range of scents. If I weren't trying to save $$ for the wedding I would've bought some of their home decor peices as well. The woman also gave out quite a few "prizes" (candles) during the presentation. I'd say if your into hosting those kinds of parties go for it, they have nice things and when I went they had some deals going on (and gifts for the hostess). I'm still using the candles I got then today. HTH!

I basically very much dislike any types of parties of that sort. They seem far to schemey and sleazy to me. I've gotten stuff from those types of events in the past as gifts, and its never been anything special. I make it a point NOT to go to those things.

Ditto Bimbi!  I hate being invited as a "guest" only because you want me to buy stuff... my only exception to this is *sometimes* Pampered Chef stuff.  PC stuff is actually decent quality and I can't get it anywhere else...

Ugh, I'm leaning towards just telling her no.  I'm not a big fan of the parites either, and I haven't had an overwhelmingly excited response from a few feelers I put out.  I just hate saying no to my neighbor.  :(

Thanks for your help, ladies.  I can always count on you!

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I actually really enjoy going to Partylite parties....I love their candles, they are really good quality and aren't any more expensive than Yankee products.  If you felt weird having a party just for ppl to buy stuff, an easier route would be a catalog "party" -- you basically just take the catalogs and casually see if anyone wants to order anything.  I've done that before, took the catalog to work (where allowed) and people glance at it if they are interested or pass on it if they aren't....no harm no foul, and if no one orders anything no big deal (but bonus if they do!).  Just an idea though, do what you are comfortable with!

My mom used to sell partylite and I like their stuff but maybe I'm a little biased. They have wonderful scents and decorations. If you are uncomfortable with having the party then doing what Pp suggested and having a catalog party would be ok too. Maybe look throught the stuff she has to show and see if you like any of it. If you do then your friends will too!
