TMI Tuesday

Ok ladies, what is on your mind(s) today?

I was thinking about undies. I've noticed lately that people seem to insinuate that wearing a thong still is associated with some kind of skankiness. And then I get embarassed kinda, because I have worn thongs since like, 8th grade. But I'm not permiscuous (sp?) in the least! I just like the comfort of them and that I don't get panty lines.

But recently I've been more into the hipster style. Those are comfy too and seem not to get bad panty lines.

Thoughts? Thongs, bikinis, hipsters, boycut, granny panties? A combination?

I too, have worn thongs since middle school. But in the last few years, I find myself wearing booty shorts more often then not. I do still wear thongs from time to time, depending on the pants/skirt I'm wearing, so I don't have a VPL! I LOVE booty shorts & how comfortable they are! That's typically what I sleep in every night. FI loves them too!! = )

I like wearing those at night too, Andi. :) They are super cozy as pjs. :)

I love the cheeky hipsters now more than thongs. In school my friends and I always had thong Fridays and I have also worn them since middle school but I have never worn them everyday. My FI loves thongs but I just feel gross at the end of the day sometimes with them so I will choose my hipsters over them any day!

OMG....I was thinking of TMI Tuesday on Sunday and thinking that the subject should be about underwear!!!! hahaha...I love that I come on and that's exactly what the subject is :)

I wear thongs M-F and hate it. I wish I could never wear them. I only wear them so you can't see a underwear line in my dress pants @ work. The weekends are for sure boy shorts (the type wear your cheeks hang out a bit) or when I get to wear jeans @ work.

FI hates that I don't like to wear thongs. He prefers them. I like to be comfortable...and they are not comfortable.

Ditto! I used to wear them all the time in high school. But, would much rather lay around in a pair of cheeky unders now!! S0 comfy. I tend to wear just them to bed too and have known to change out of the thong in order to put on cheekies once I get home from work during the week.

I agree with the hipsters- I really like wearing them (but I usually wear a string thong to work so I don't have VPL in my dress pants) and I noticed in VS last week that there are a lot more hipsters and bikini style than thong than there used to be.

On a side note, I got a free pair of the VS "incredible" hipster/bikini, and OMG I love them!! Super comfy and flattering- I plan on buying more. And the material is thin and doesn't leave much of a VPL. Not sure how long they last or if they get weird in the wash, as they are a satin-y material and sometimes that can get iffy. I strongly recommend them, though!

I'm a standard bikini girl myself. I have worn thongs when necessary, but I find them more than a tad uncomfortable.

I think a big part of the reason people make assumptions about thongs is simply because of their particular 'utility.' Let's face it... they weren't created for comfort or true practicality. They were created to give those who spend an inordinate amount of time and focus looking at our rear ends something more pleasant to look at. And honestly, if you're wearing something that's so tight or so sheer that thongs are crucial? You're only added fuel to the fire under that myth.

    I'm not anti-thong... moreso I'm just playing devil's advocate.

It also doesn't help that the girls who actually are skanky like to show off their thongs. Thank the lord this isn't as prevalent as it was earlier in the decade... but yeah... girls with their thong straps hitched up above their low-rise pants didn't exactly help dispel the myth ;-)

I've worn thongs since high school or college, and I ALWAYS wear them during the day. My favorite ones are the cotton ones from Vicky's that have a lace waistband; they're so comfy and I don't have to worry about whether they're showing.

At night, I have to wear full-butt underwear. I can't really sleep in a thong, but I don't really like boy shorts either; they seem to ride up on me. My favorite ones are hiphuggers, or bikinis, not really sure, but they're from, of all places, Shop-ko. I randomly picked a pair of cute Christmas ones with penguins on them, and I swear they were cut to fit my butt perfectly. I've since gone back and bought more. H pokes a little fun of me for it, like I'm Rain Man or something -- "Gotta be Shop-ko underpants! Gotta be Shop-ko!" -- but I don't care.

I understand the history behind why they were created and how women continue to perpetuate. I just think it is unfortunate for those that aren't wearing them for attention in any way. I'm like most of you girls and wear them during the day but not at night. I don't like the feeling of bikini cut because of how they ride up and I haaate that feeling in my jeans/pants/etc. But I guess I'm in the minority in that I've never really found them uncomfortable, though I still wouldn't sleep in them.

I never ever wear thongs. I have a couple but could probably count on 1 hand the number of times I've worn them. I think they're just too uncomfortable. Not that it matters much since I wear scrubs to work and hardly ever get dressed up for anything lol. I prefer hipsters. I love underwear from American Eagle!

I wear a thong under certain pairs of dress pants not because they're tight or skanky or low or whatever, just because no matter what type of regular seat underwear I have on, the lines show unless it is a thong under there. Trust me, I don't do tight. Or Skanky. Just regular old dress pants that happen to really show panty lines well.

I guess I still just don't understand why "VPL" are so horrid. You have to be looking pretty effing close at a woman's nether regions to notice them unless something is downright see-through. Women made it decades wearing roughly the same clothing styles we wear now without wearing thongs.

I mean, I do admit that I do own several pairs of underwear designed to not have panty lines (they're like this stretchy nylon material... I get them at Kohl's) but I just don't buy the concept that thongs are necessary.

Maybe it's the hippie in me talking, but I find the concept of "having to wear" thongs (when you don't find them comfortable) really degrading. I mean, the modern thong was after all, created by a (male) designer who was also known for creating the little known "pubikini" which was a swimsuit designed to show off a patch of your pubic hair.

I don't think that thongs are necessary if you don't find them comfortable. Even if people can't see the panty lines, you (and I mean you in a general sense) might know they are there/will be aware of them, and maybe that makes you self conscious. That is sometimes my feeling anyway, even over thinking other people see it. I honestly don't think anything about the sex appeal of it.

I own a few thongs but only wear them under the pants that would have VPL, which are only a few. I purposely buy thicker pants so I won't that problem if I can avoid it. In regards to "Having" to wear thongs being degrading because VPL are bad, I disagree. Personally I compare VPL to guys that let their underwear hang out. Its just not seen as a crisp image. Other than some thin fabrics in dress pants/skirts/dresses, usually VPL are a result from pants that are too tight, which isn't good.

I like low-riding briefs and have a few pairs of booty-shorts. I like the briefs vs bikini style because I feel that the latter tends to ride up more. I also like having more support for my bum. I really hate thongs because they don't hold my butt up at all and are not all that cleanly. I've heard some pretty nasty things about the bacteria that thongs are breeding grounds for. I'd rather keep my nether regions clean, myself.

I think that the whole negative thong image came from when most of us were in high school and everyone was doing the whale tail. It was a sign that one was open for business and did really look bad. And lets face it, trends come and go. Booty shorts are in now, but soon it will probably swing some other direction. I mostly just want to be comfy during the day, but will wear pretty much anything that FI asks for as long as it is only for a moment while he enjoys it & then I don't have to any more.

For me personally, its a presentation thing more than anything. I like to look professional and polished and VPL make me feel less so. It would be like me walking in with disheveled hair, mascara running down my face, or my skirt tucked into my pantyhose or something - not professional. Not polished. If I can see them, so can someone else. Are they going to say anything? Of course not - but I notice it on other people and I presume the same can be said for other people seeing it on me.

I don't like wearing heels either and I'm pretty sure they were designed by some stupid guy to achieve maximum toe squishage and arch destruction - but I wear them because that is what gives me a polished look.
