Got my hotel block finalized at Residence Inn :-)

How does this work exactly?  I am staying at the hotel that we need to do a block in when I am back in Minnesota in 2 weeks.  Do they normally just tell you how much it is going to be and that's that?  Does it depend on how many rooms you will be booking etc?

How we did it is that we took a tour of the hotel, they let us know how much the different types of rooms were and other perks from having a block-the rates are lower than normal although ahead of time I'd pretend to make a reservation online for your date just to see how much a AAA, Corporate or Military discount is. At first, having a AAA card was better than our block rate so I asked if our rate could be lowered and they did it no questions asked.

The perks usually kick in when at least 10 rooms are booked (most of the time it's a free night in a suite). You shouldn't have to provide a credit card or a deposit to put a block in place- if you do, run far far away.
