Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

SS Office Question

To change your name one your social security card did you all go to the card center on Chicago Ave or were you able to do it at any SS office?

Thanks!

I got mine changed at an office in Edina, and I know other Knotties have gone to St. Paul. So, I think you can go to any office. I found somewhere on their web site the list of offices you could go to.

I went to the Minneapolis location. Whatever you do, don't go to the location on Sibley in St Paul-- they wont do it there. I went there and was met with a sign telling people doing name changes to go to the Minneapolis location.

I went to the MPLS one because I think if you live in the Twin Cities area you have to?

I think it was a fairly recent change that they only do name changes at the Minneapolis one... because people kept telling me I could go to the office in Edina, and then when I called around about it... was told I needed to go to Mpls.

It is the Chicago Avenue one!  I think that's what is included in the instructions that come with your initial marriage license paperwork.

That's what I thought... dang! I tried going down there a couple weeks ago and it was packed so I didn't stick around... I need to find more time to go down there again. Any suggestions for the time of day when the place is not standing room only?

I went there on a Friday around 12 and my waiting time and processing time total was about 20 minutes.  After everything I had read on here I was terrified to go in there expecting to wait foreverrrr.  Maybe I got lucky that day but it wasn't bad at all.

Did mine through the mail, very quick and easy. They returned our marriage license in like 3 days and had my card in less than 2 weeks.  My mom worked at that Chicago office for 20+ years, I would NOT go there if I didn't have to.

Did you mail it to the Chicago Ave office? I wanted to do this option but they sure made it seem like you had to go into the office. It just isn't an easy thing for me to do with my work schedule.
