Alterations

Does anyone have recommendations for someone to do alterations for a bridesmaid dress?  I am in a wedding in a month and need some alterations done and don't want to pay too much.  I have heard the name Louise, but she is too busy right now from what I have read on here and don't want to even call her.  Any other recs for the twin cities or western WI area.  Any and all information helps.  Thank you.

I would try calling Louise.  Her busy season is over, and I bet that she would be able to do it.  I'm getting married tomorrow, and picked up my dress yesterday.  She answered the phone right away, took time with me to go over everything when I picked it up... she's super sweet.

I went to Mighty Stitch in north Minneapolis (almost into Brooklyn Center by the Brookdale Mall) yesterday for my wedding dress. It's a small shop, and it looks kind of dumpy, but the lady is SUPER great, and was able to point out little details she could take care of that I wouldn't have thought of, and ways to save me money.

What does she usually charge or what is her average?

I would call Sue Wills in Burnsville if that is a semi-convenient location for you. She does great work, is fast, and very reasonably priced! 612-616-1400

Tonya Gorelik does all my alterations.  She works out of her home and is generally in the $20 range per hour and usually gets my things done very quickly.  I've never paid over $60 for complicated work.  She works out of her home in her basement shop. Nothing fancy, but she's a nice little russian woman.

Louise did a bridesmaid dress for me. I had it shortened in the straps and hemmed... cost me $38.

Bellaxanthe - would you recommend Tonya for wedding dress alterations? I bought a floor sample that I basically need torn apart and resewn together so it'll fit.

    <div>Ditto Amy!!!</div><div>
</div><div>I had alterations done in Chicago since I live here, but then I lost some weight and needed alterations asap the week of my wedding. We called Amy the Tuesday before the wedding, Amy got me in and did amazing work -- she had it back to me Thursday morning. She's seriously fabulous and used to own a really nice bridal shop, so she knows what she's doing. </div>
