trying to get a tan

It's time for me to start thinking about getting some color. I am normally pale and don't mind it, but I obviously want to look good for my wedding day. I've always been opposed to tanning beds because they are so unhealthy, even using them once. But I know of some people who did airbrush tans and turned orange, had streaks, or had lovely orange stains on their dress. Any advice or products that you found worked well?

I've done the airbrushing tans, and I think they turn out pretty good.  I'd recommend having a person do the airbrushing versus in a Mystic booth because you end up with more even coverage.  I haven't had any streaking that way, and it looks pretty natural.

I do end up with orange on my clothing (it mostly washes out) the same day I get the tan, but not much after that.  If you tan 2 or 3 days before your wedding, I don't think any would end up on your dress.  I don't know for sure, though...I haven't tried it yet with a wedding dress!

I've used the mystic tan in the past for several occasions....never turned orange or had streaking.

Most places let you choose the degree of darkness you want....as suggested I would do it a couple days before to help avoid it getting on your wedding dress.

Since you have some time...I would try it out.  Good Luck!

I agree with Stacelace, Mystic tan is the way to go. Palm Beach Tan is the original, they have 3 locations (http://www.palmbeachtan.com/Salon-Locator.aspx?q=55345) My sister is the store manager at the one in Richfield, Tracy, tell her you are from the knot, and know me (Jamie) and she will let you know everything! --Well she will even if you didnt tell her you where recommend! :)

I have had a spray tan at Midwest Facial Plastics in Eagan and in Woodbury.  They have estheticians who personally spray you and it has always turned out great.  I was a little shy about it the first time - something about being naked in front of someone who is basically spray painting you.  lol  But, after the first time it didn't feel weird anymore.  I would definitely recommend going there.  And like PP said, it will turn your bra you are wearing that day a little orange, but I've never had anything else discolor and it always washes right out of my bra too.

I would recommend having a trial run done well before your wedding -  just to get an idea for the color and how long it lasts, etc so there are no surprises on your wedding day.  :)

If you want to try Midwest Facial Plastics, pm me and I'll get the number for you.  They do a great job.

Extrados does an airbrush tan with organic products, that looks super natural and is mixed for you and your skin tone, so no weird orangey-ness.

Also keep in mind that tanned skin does not always photograph well. Some people look better in photos without a tan. I would say when you do your trial tan, get pictures of it and compare with and without the tan. Also, if you tried on a dress without a tan you might not like the way it looks with a tan. Ivory vs. white for instance can look really different on tanned skin.

Also keep in mind how you'll look standing next to your wedding party. There was one bridesmaid at my cousin's wedding last summer who was such oompa-loompa orange and everyone else was relatively pale (or at least not orange). She stuck out like a sore thumb.

Just stay in the range of "natural" color and avoid the fake-bake look.
