West Metro Alterations

My dress is in and I got to try it on for the first time tonight! Yay! Anyone have any good recommendations for alterations in the west metro? I purchased my dress from The Wedding Chapel, and they estimated about $275 for alterations, is that a typical price? I thought it was very reasonable, but I just wanted to check around.

  • It depends on what you need done. That seems high to me, but my dress was only $250. I went to a place in North Minneapolis (almost into Brooklyn Center) called Mighty Stitch. Honestly, the place is kind of dumpy, but the owner Vivienne is really great and did a wonderful job. She was able to suggest things to tweak on my dress that I wouldn't have thought of, like instead of cutting off the small train like I thought I wanted (I don't like bustles), she covered the hanger strap under the train with some trim that she used on her own wedding dress so I could hold it up while dancing and it would look pretty. In addition to that, she hemmed it, took it in a bit on the top, cut apart a strapless bra to sew it into the dress (cheaper than using her cups and I was able to choose the amount of padding) and she took apart some clip-on earrings so she could sew them onto the front of my dress. I think I paid a little over $100.
