Tuesday?

Do we have a dedicated Tuesday post? Any ideas?  My club board did a TMI Tuesday ;) Where you could just ask anything random (as it got closer to November there were a lot of questions about what to wear on the wedding night. ha)  Any other ideas?

Or just say hi.  What's new?

I figured this would turn into a BC thread. They usually do ;)

here's my TMI question... sex drive. Did it change when you went on/off BC?  Because  I went on BCP when I was 15 (horrendous cramps, irregular, etc) and stayed on it until three months ago (almost 10 years.)  I don't know if it's because I had nothing to compare it to or what, but I feel completely different.  Mentally too. It's kind of freaking me out a little that apparently BCP were affecting my hormones so much (duh.)  I guess I just didn't' have anything to compare it to?

ETA: I went off my birth control last November, because the doctor made me due to my migraines.

ETA2: Thanks, MS.  I need to stay away from that conversation now, I think, because it just gets me all riled up when people think their opinion is the only right opinion.

BC scares me. I can barely take 1 teeny tiny sudafed without feeling loopy, so I basically avoid taking any meds unless its ibuprofen. I'm also allergic to Codeine, so I stay away from any sort of narcotic or opioid type of pain killer, cuz I think it will kill me or something, lol. I declined Vicodin when I had lasik.

Needless to say, I think BC would make me crazy...

I guess I don't know if my sex drive changed much when I started BCP. I started it pretty much the month after I started dating FI and he was my first, soooo couldn't tell ya if it changed because I've had it the whole time. lol.

Steph, yeah I can understand where you are coming from. I get irritated with that too.

As far as sex drive and BC, I was in a long-distance relationship when I started mine several years ago, so I don't really know how or if it was affected since I never saw my man.  However, I have changed types a few times (currently on the Nuva Ring), and any time I change I go into super b*tch mode for about a month.  I love Nuva Ring now, but my first month on it, I had 0 sex drive, and sex was actually painful.  I think it was mostly my body adjusting to the new hormones, but every time I've switched, things go back to "normal" in about a month.  I've never had any long term sex drive effects (that I know of) from being on BC.

I had a horrible experience with NuvaRing.  That was the one time I tried to switch off BCP prior to this past November.

I was sick to my stomach, nauseas, and dizzy for 2 months straight.

I hate BC! Well I love not having babies right now but I hate BC! I had a blood clot in my lung and they blamed it on my wonderful estrogen based BC and made me stop taking it. Now I have to take progesterone and it is not an easy relationship. Progesterone makes me spot about 50% of the time which is not fun at all. My sex drive has not changed but the fact I am bleeding all of the time sure dampens the amount of available windows...

And holy mother of craps this week for me! Anytime I bend to the side my left ovary feels like it is tearing in half!! I wish whatever it is trying to do would just start already and get on with it! Ok I feel better now. Sorry for the vent.

I went on BC my sophomore year in college at the recommendation of my dermatologist because I was having (and still have - boo) acne.  I was on it basically straight through until this fall when I went off so that DH and I would be ready to roll when we start TTC.  I guess that makes it about 11 years??  Anyways, I've noticed that not only do my PMS symptoms rear their ugly head in a bad way now that I'm off, I do actually have quite different patterns of desire if you will.  Before, it was just kinda "meh, whatever" no matter what time of the month it is.  Now there are definitely  times where I'm all about it and others where I'd rather not have DH touch me with a 10 foot pole!  Poor guy!

    I vote for TMI :)!

I actually just went on the Nuva ring and am about 1 week into my 3d month and I really like it now but I hated it for the first month.

Month 1 = moody and generally unpleasant to be around. I also go cramps which was really annoying since I hadnt had them for years with the pill.

Month 2 = my mood stabilized and I felt right back to normal after about the first week. I also didnt get cramps this month!

Month 3 = I feel great! My sex drive is back and I am no longer moody!

So for those ladies who dont want to deal with taking a pill I would def give it a try! The posibility for side effects is also lower for women who havent had a kid (like me) than an IUD. Had you asked me in month one I would have told you to avoid the ring but I had bought 3 months so I decided to stick it out and am SO glad I did! Now I dont have to worry about taking a pill, can be baby free till we are ready, and my mood is great!

That's kind of disappointing to hear. I've been thinking about switching to that when I go in for my next appointment, b/c I've talked to a handful of girls who said that this was the best for them in regards to sex drive. Mine's been kinda zilch lately.

I have heard from Girlfriends that have quit the pill or any form of BC for that matter they feel AMAZING. Its kinda annoying hearing how good they feel and they didn't notice they were feeling bad just they feel so much better. Similar to when people loose weight.

Personally, FI and I have been long distance for 6 of the 7 yrs we have been together, which means i seriously saw him 4xs a year ... which you would think means no BC for me but he hates the feeling of .. lets say ... his form of protection. So I am stuck with it until we are Baby Ready. :(

ETA: All this BC talk reminded me I need to make an apt for my yearly exam - PUKE! LoL

We use condoms and spermicidal gel...no BC for me.

I guess aside from my fear of being crazy, I also sort of feel like I am a woman, I'm supposed to bleed once a month, and because of that, there are some annoying things I have to deal with like cramps and just overall feeling of crap. Its the natural way I suppose! That said, we can't afford babies now, so we have to intervene in some way, haha.

I would say the ring for me is def better sex drive wise than the pill!
It does take some getting use to though - I had a drop in drive and now it is steadily climbing!

This was pretty much my experience, except worse.  I would have NEVER recommended it after the first month, probably not even after the 2nd month just cause the first was so bad, but I didn't have money to buy new bc at the time, and I had 3 months of it.  Now I've been on it for about a year and a half and I wouldn't go back to the pill unless I had to.  I love not having to remember to take one every day, and I don't like the "permanance" of the IUD.  So Nuva Ring works perfect.

Just about everyone I know has had a terrible first couple of months on Nuva Ring, though.  It's not for everyone, but if anyone decides to try it, I'd give it at least 2 months before deciding "no."

My sex drive has definitely decreased, but I've always blamed it on being old, fat, and FI and I have been together so long I get bored.  I've just never really been that into it, but FI likes to get it regular.  What I do like about the BCP, though, is that my periods are SO light, maybe lasting only 3-4 days, and pain-free.  I do think the pill has made me gain weight and made me an emotional wreck, but it's hard to say about that last thing since I've been on it for the last 5+ years.  I've only skipped my period once, and I'll never do that again.  Made my cycle weird for about 3 months, and I actually like having a period every month, as nature intended.

I've only got about 2.5 weeks left until I'm done with the BCP forever, or at least until we're done having kids.  Hooray!

I still think I should've made FI pay all my copays for it over all this time, since it's because of him that I went on it.  Sucks that I have to pay for it, too.

My vote is for TMi Tuesday :)

For your question on your sex drive and BC.  I noticed a huge change in my sex drive once I started BC.  Then I went off it for a little while and I went nuts wanting sex. haha I'm back on it now.  And I love that it helps control my periods and cramps, but it really stinks how my sex drive lessens.. :(

Jumping in on the thread! I really don't know notice a difference in sex drive on BC or not on BC, and I have tried Yasmin, Ortho Tri cyclen, generic ortho tri cyclen, and mirena.

However, I do notice that my sex drive gets lower the better the relationship is. The worse the relationship, the higher it gets. So poor FI my drive is at an all time low :(

Due to health issues we have had in December/January, we hardly have done anything. I am determined that Feb is going to make up for that!! DETERMINED hahaha

I am a fan of BC, I haven't had any problems.. besides the whole sex drive thing. I can definitely tell the difference when I am on/off the pill!

Hmm, maybe my BC is the problem with my sex drive! haha, I've only ever been on Nuva Ring and I've been on it for about 4 years now.. I really like it as far as not having to remember a pill goes. And my periods are generally pretty cramp-free, compared to before I went on BC. I used to have horrible, day-ruining cramps and now it's just a light twinge every once in awhile. However, lately I've been feeling less than frisky and I'm usually pretty dry down there, so sex can be painful w/o lube. :( It makes me feel like some dried up old lady, haha! Maybe me being less into sex has to do with the fact that we moved in together this summer, so it's just kind of an adjustment from being long-distance, but I just feel so bad! He wants it like every other night, and half the time I turn him down.. :(

I <3 TMI Tuesday.  I'm on BCP for now and I hate it!  I feel like the slightest thing makes me cry.  I'm sure the people I work with think I'm nutso.  I get headaches ALL THE TIME.  And I could deal with only having sex once a month or so.  The drive just isn't there.  Blah I think we're planning on me going off it about 6-8 months after we get married.  And crossing our fingers I won't get knocked up immediately.  hahaha

I also vote for TMI Tuesday.
I've been on BC for about 3 months now and I've noticed no difference at all. The only thing I had to deal with was some weight gain at the onset and getting used to BC periods, which are weired.
I have heard that people on depo lose their sex drive. 2 of my girlfriends said that it was the most horrible method ever. One said that it makes you so cranky and b*tchy and bloaty that it is 100% effective cuz the sight of one's man makes you become a raging she devil, lol.
