Hi Ladies...so I am trying to decide if want to hire a DOC.  Wondering what kind of experience you all had if you did have one or are planning on having one.  Any recs and prices would be appreciated.  TIA

We're not hiring one because our reception venue coordinator already seems to do all the big stuff we'd want a DOC to do at the reception, and our florist will also put up the decorations.  At the ceremony, I'm going to have a friend "direct" it, but I'm really not that worried about it being perfect, since it's not super-formal.

If our recepttion venue coordinator weren't already doing so much, I would have seriously considered hiring a DOC.  I'd still like to, but it's just not in the budget.

I hired Stephanie with First Blush Bride.  She's $500 for DOC.  We also met with Maria from Ispiri, same price.  Both ladies are great, it was a tough decision.

I'm thinking about it, too... although I'd only need one for the reception since my church already has a coordinator.

Yes yes yes! I would DEF get a DOC. Even if you have a reception coordinator, they will be so busy making sure that the venue staff is where they need to be and running all that that they really dont have the time to do a good job of being there for you. Yes we used our DOC a TON for reception set up that could have been handled by a reception coordinator but a) our reception coordinator didnt set anything up that wasnt rented directly from them and b) even if they did I still would have wanted someone that could be as detail orientated as I would want them to be.

For instance, my friend got married and decided she didnt need a DOC as she had a reception site coordinator. Well who ended up not only having to be a BM but also took care of some DOC type work like paying vendors, negotiating longer reception hours with the staff, keeping the DJ on task....that's right - me. I was totally happy to help but it would have been nice to just be a BM.

Our DOC did tons of stuff I didnt even know she did too that I am still finding out about more stuff. If you are a DIY bride I think it is especially helpful as you may have a lot of DIY components that all need to be set up and set up right. I didnt want to worry about my aunts or other friends/family having to do any of this nor do I think they would have been able to do as good of a job. I have heard stories of people's family just changing the brides' plan/vision to whatever they want when they are setting up the venue and I didnt want to risk that.

And when it comes down to it, my DOC just gave me peace of mind and alleviated stress (if anyone needed anything I sent them to her and didnt have to deal with it) which is huge for me and totally worth the investment.

I used Sarah from Lasting Impressions and she was AWESOME but def on the higher price range. I think she was $950. But you can def find DOCs for under $500.

While your church might have a coordinator, they are there to represent the church, not you. A DOC would be there for you. We also had a church coordinator and she would have cared less if my veil was on right or my dress was straight before walking down the aisle. She also coordinated our bubble exit and made sure the programs and such were all set up to look nice versus just out. My DOC def had a larger impact on the reception, but I was so glad to have her there for the ceremony too.

Sorry I think I am done with my rant now :).
Can you tell I am a fan of having a DOC :).
