Place Cards

What are you using to make your place cards and how are you differentiating them from each other for meal selections?

Right now I plan on using customized business cards that I made on VistaPrint and then to distinguish between different meals I think I am going to back them with different colored paper (that match our colors obviously) and make that paper folded tents so they stand up.  I haven't decided for sure but I think this is what we are going to do.

We did our invites from Anchor paper, so we had access to all of their die cuts!  It was wonderful.  Our escort cards were:

Had we not done a buffet, we would have switched out the orange for purple paper, or something similar.

We had the same meal at our reception so they were all the same.  However, we had 3 meal choices for the rehearsal dinner so I did place cards for that and color coded them for the server.  Blue = fish.  White = Chicken.  Red = beef.

So are you printing them yourself or how are you getting all the guests' names on them?

<div>Thanks!  They were super easy, although they were time consuming (but in a mind-numbing, watching-a-movie-while-folding kind of easy way.)</div><div>
</div><div>The brown part was one die cut, then the little corners were another hole punch.  The orange piece just slid into the brown part, if that makes sense.</div>

Yea, haven't figure that out yet haha.  One of my friends knows calligraphy so I may hire her to do them.

Kari- nope!  I have the whole price break down at home, but we ended up spending about $120 total for a ton of stuff.  From what I remember:

about 100 sheets of 8x10 heavy brown cardstock for the backing of the invites (included the cutting fee)
100 sheets of heavy orange cardstock (for 100 accommodation inserts (4 to a page) and 100 backings for the invites (two to a page)
30 sheets of really heavy cardstock (for our RSVP postcards)
a full ream of nice ivory paper (actual invites, and our programs/signs/etc)
a box of 200 (250?) nice linen envelopes

That's all jumbled, but we figured out the invites were about $0.75/piece, and we used the extra stuff to make about 200 programs, and our signs and all sorts of random stuff.  That covered the cutting fee for the brown invite 'gates' (kind of like a pocketfold without the pockets)  We got to keep the extras, which we used to make the escort cards.

    Picture

^you can see the brown 'gate' and kind of see the orange backing on the invites.

For the rest of the pictures:

I plan on using cardstock and using possibly different color daisy cutouts to indicate what type of meal the person is having. I am planning on making mine pretty simple though.

I was actually thinking of ripping off a Martha Stewart idea and making a paper flower for each guest with a little flag attached with their name on it instead of doing cards.  I'm trying to incoporate paper flowers into the centerpieces, and this would go along with it nicely.  We're serving a buffet and our venue doesn't require us to have the guests decide their choice ahead of time, so we don't have to differentiate at all.

    This is our inspiration

The back will be different colors for the different meals.
It all depends on how much extra I have of each. Right now I have a ton of purple so that will be for the most popular meal choice I think.

Make sure to check with your venue.  Ours does NOT want us to use colors to differentiate between meals, we'll probably do a stamp/sticker on the back of the card of a cow/chicken/vegetable silhouette.

Really? PEC doesn't want different colors?

Ours prefers colors vs. cut out because of the low light- they also requested we pick colors that are obviously different. They said once a bride picked Ivory and White to distinguish meals and their staff had the hardest time.

Nope, It says it somewhere on the site (under faq maybe) and Heather made a point of telling us this at our tasting.

I remember Heather saying that now actually... here's what it says on PEC's website:

Please assign tables and provide your guests
name cards that clearly reflect their entrée
choices.  The clearest code is a picture or
simply a letter (e.g., picture of a chicken or
the letter C) on the front of the name card.
Please do not use color coding as the servers
    have difficulty distinguishing the colors.

Ours were pretty basic, because I kinda waiting until the last minute to do it, and by that point all I wanted to do was get married and I was over all of the little details, lol. I literally used mostly scraps left over from our invites (paper bought at Paper Depot). I only had to buy a little extra of what I didn't have enough of (at Paper Source, cuz it was closest to me here in Chi). I used a stamp and embossed (in different colors) on the back of them to differentiate the food choices.
