using an ipod..

risky or genius?  As many of you know, the sound system at PEC is all set up for an ipod.  We are pushing our strict budget and I am wondering if using an ipod would be a good idea.  We could make different song lists and let one or two members of the bridal party change the music if neccessary (only if they want to though)  what are your thoughts?

    IF you do an ipod reception, I would recommend having someone designated as the "DJ."  They can change the music and do some general announcements.  If no one is disignated, no one will think it's their place to take care of it.

    Agree with PP. I've been to a couple of weddings where they used an ipod and it worked just fine, however, they had someone in charge of monitoring it to make sure everything stayed in working order

    VERY ... VERY ... Bad idea!!! Unless you've got someone who's experienced either as a DJ or done MC work before, it's a recipe for DISASTER!!! My cousin did this for her wedding and it was the LAMEST excuse for a dance because there were so many pregnant pauses it'd make Paul Harvey roll over in his grave along with they just had no CLUE how to get people involved with the dance portion of the evening even though they were THEATER majors... Also, even if you only hire a DJ in for a short evening, you're paying them to work your group so they have a great time. If your group is hoop'n and holler'n it up to Polkas and Techno music, they can adjust to what works for YOUR group. With your IPOD, you don't have that level of reading the group going on for what's going to work and your play list of Fish'n in the Dark and Bug Butts might just not be what works, but you're stuck with it all the same. Then comes the issue of time. How much is the value of your time to put together the play list, download all the songs, learn the sound system at the site, etc. Yes, you still need to know the sound system if you're going to use it. The value of your time to download 4-hours of play list isn't worth the value of the cheap package (aka no light show) from a DJ... Don't short change yourself and check into a few DJ's in the cities for what options you have that will fit your tight budget. Also, be specific about what you've got to spend and what you can get for the $$$... You never know, there are DJ's out there willing to hire in on a lower budget..
