Reception Music Ideas??

Very soon after we were engaged, my FI informed me he does not want a dance.  He didn't have a specific reason, but I think finances play into his decision.  So, we have ceremony music covered and thought we could maybe just have a string trio or quartet play during the reception.

Has anyone else had experience with this situation?  About how much did you have to pay to have the strings for several hours?  Were you happy with the variety of music?

The only other option is an ipod, but I'd rather have live music.  (He doesn't want to hire a band or DJ even if there isn't dancing.)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Just food for thought - but my string trio for my quick and fast ceremony was as expensive as an entire night of DJ service!

Umm... yeah... live musicians are going to cost you a lot more than a DJ. My DJ (Neon Express) was only $250 for the whole night. Just hiring a soloist for two songs during my ceremony was going to cost me more than that.

Talk to your fiance about why he doesn't want a dance. His reasoning might be completely different.

And, just in case no one's told you this... it's your wedding too, so he needs to be open to compromise if you DO want a dance or at least a DJ.
