Midwest Sound

If you used this DJ company, about how much did it run you? I tried to contact them for pricing info but all they keep doing is continually calling me to talk about everything. To be blunt/honest, I don't have time to sit on the phone with them and all I wanted was a range of what it would run me haha. We're looking for very limited DJ involvement, if that makes any difference. Thank you so much!

I think what they want to know is WHAT you want. We got an incredible deal but that is because I sat on the phone and negotiated with them. For all of what we wanted and needed we got them for $495 - some people have paid upwards of $700 I believe. All depends on when your wedding is, what your needs are etc.

Ditto Annie - We got them for $495 due to our Friday wedding & our location.  You do need to sit on the phone with them to go over everything.  That's really the only way to get a price from them.  It doesn't take to long & in the end those 15 minutes ended up saving us a bunch of money!  = )

We booked them for a Saturday wedding in which they would have to travel almost 200 miles, and through the phone conversation they waived all travel expense and ended up giving us ceremony and dinner music for free. Music playing from 330 to 1 am is costing us $890.

We are using them as well and for our wedding date and location and how long we need them it was quoted at almost 1200 and we saved over 50% after I talked with them and what not.  When you are talking with them on the phone they aren't pushy they really are feeling you out to see what your needs/wants are.  After that talking they give you their prices but they aren't pushy, they'll let you think about it.  I know they can be as limited as you want or as involved as you want.  I think its worth a shot to listen to what they have to say.

We booked them at the Wedding fair for unlimited play for 595. The package we are getting was valued at about 1200 so I am very happy that I listend to what they had to say. Hart was actually very respectful and helpful.
Give it a shot, ya never know you might get a great deal!

I also got them for $495 for a Friday wedding.  A close family member to me has a business relationship with the owner so we got a great deal with some of the "extras" for no additional cost.  We had the DJ very minimally involved other than playing music and we gave him a pretty comprehensive list to choose off of so his work was really quite easy!

We got them for $695 originally $1200.

Now I can't remember... either 495 or 595.. They're a preffered vendor for my wedding site, so they said they would come at 330, and stay however late we want :)

We also got them for $695 for a Sat wedding. I do think they like to talk to you about what kind of DJ you want etc. so its a good conversation to have even though its a little annoying to be on the phone when you just want a quote.

Dittoo PPs. Having worked for Midwest before, the cost can run anywhere from $395 - $1200+. That's probably why they were trying to get more information from you; so they could provide a better quote.

I got them for $494 for a Saturday night wedding, that included music durring dinner and dancing. I believe it was abour 6-7 hours. I think this is lower than others but I booked pretty far in advance.

I just got a quote for $885 for our outdoor ceremony, dinner and dance along with a projector.  Should I be trying to get a better deal from them??

To OP, I understand you are looking for minimal interaction from the DJ, but I think they are probably calling you to stay in touch, and show you that they want your business. When we started shopping for DJ we called 5 companies. Midwest was great about getting back to us right away, as well as following up. 2 of the other companies we looked at made some rather rude comments when we told them we were looking at other services, which pretty much turned us off.  One of the services (Instant request I think) sent us a contract before we agreed to book. :(
And the other service only called us once.
In the end we felt that although Midwest was a little higher than some of the other companies, both FI and I felt a lot better about using them. We couldn't be happier!
    btw
We are getting them for $745 for our reception, plus $825 for our uplighting.

I honestly don't think that sounds too bad, since they're doing your ceremony and bringing a projector.

Thank you all so much for the info! It really helps. This is a hard decision because DJ's are so expensive and to be honest, I really don't trust them to play music that I like haha. My ideal situation would be to come up with playlists and just have a DJ there to troubleshoot and switch between them (and to have his/her equipment). Hopefully Midwest ends up being affordable...

You can totally do that.  I gave our DJ 6 hours worth of songs to pick from and told him that since we'd had a wedding in our family 8 months earlier, I knew that this stuff would get the crowd moving and to please not take requests outside of the list.  We did finally OK him to play Ice, Ice Baby because he had gotten about a dozen requests for it.  :-P

They have an online music selection tool that you can use to specify what you want played and they're great about getting something if it isn't already in their library.  Case in point, my sorority sisters and I have a special song that was always played at our parties and is a pretty obscure REM song that nobody has.  I put it on the list as a *must play* and let them know if they had difficulties finding it to let me know and I'd scrounge up a copy.  They had zero problems with it and played it as requested.

    good DJ's aren't cheap, and cheap DJ's aren't good.
I doubt if they would've gotten to be such a big company if they didn't know what they were doing.
