Cake question

Do any of you know any bakers licensed or not that could make a small wedding cake?  We will have sheet cakes from costco for our guests.  But we want a small wedding cake to feed our wedding party.  Our reception site does not care if the baker is licensed or not.  My FI and I don't need anything out of this world just something small and simple.  Any recs you may have will be much appreciated!  TIA!

Re: Cake question

  • Try Key's. I've seen beautiful pictures out of Joseph's in Stillwater too. Jeff from Sweet Treats might be able to help you too.
  • I'd check out Key's too :-)

  • We have been working with Queen of Cakes to do a small cutting cake for us (guests are getting cupcakes) and they have been easy to work with so far!  They are located in Edina

  • Another recommendation for Sweets by Jeff!
  • I'd recommend the Cup Cakery Bakery.  They make really really delicious cakes.

  • We're going with Wuollet's.  They have several metro locations, and don't charge a delivery fee.

  • We used Grandma's in White Bear-- their cake was really good and their prices were lower than pretty much every baker we looked at. We also had the sheet cakes with a little one for cutting and they made it look really cute.

  • We're going with Sweet Retreat in Edina - they're pretty tasty!

  • Another vote for Queen of Cakes.  Not only the tastiest tasting we had but also the cheapest!  We're going with a sweetheart cake (I believe meant for 8-10 people) at the top of our cupcake stand accompanied by 120 cupcakes filling up the remaining 4 tiers.  Our consultation/tasting with Queen of Cakes was so fun and great to see a mock-up of what it'll look like in the end.  Also super impressed with being able to try as many flavor combos as desired!  You try about 5-6 different combos during the initial consult then you can request more samples after baked for you!

Here, here!  So delicious...  He made us a small two-tier cake, a small one-tier grooms cake and was the second best deal we found for a licensed baker.

Another option that we found that was an even better deal than Jeff (we just never got a chance to meet with her) was "Terry's Cakes and Bakes."   Terry has a facebook page and is easiest to reach by phone.
